Spaces send messages. This week, Fowler Middle School students put their ideas into action! We spent the day with students as design consultants, gathering their ideas and perspectives to help shape the design of their new school.

Our team listened as students sorted precedent photos of real places on a spectrum from” places where I feel comfortable” to “places where I don’t feel comfortable” identifying colors, materials, and layouts that made the difference. Students then provided feedback on current design renderings and completed design worksheets focused on the commons, library, stage, counseling center, and hallways.

Their feedback connects to our project goals of:
✨ Pride and Belonging
✨ Representation
✨ Different Ways to Learn
✨ Calm and Comfort.

Thank you, Fowler students, for your BIG IDEAS and for sharing your honest feelings with us. We can’t wait to share how your work impacts future design decisions.

Congratulations to our Director of Planning, Elisa Warner, on being named a 2026 DJC Woman of Vision!

For more than 20 years, Elisa has helped Oregon school districts turn long-range planning into real places for students to learn and thrive. Since 2017, she has led more than 30 educational facility planning efforts across the state.

As one of the first certified assessors through the Oregon Department of Education’s Office of School Facilities, Elisa connects policy to real-world outcomes. She has also helped shape BRIC’s JEDI Strategic Plan and founded our Media Matters series, bringing conversations on neurodiversity, social-emotional learning, and sustainable design to our community.

We are proud to work alongside her and remain inspired by her commitment and dedication to school communities.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re celebrating some of the people, stories, and traditions that are part of our BRIC community.

Heritage shows up in a lot of ways—family photos, food, music, celebrations, the things we grew up with, and the traditions we carry with us. For many of us, those experiences also shape how we see our communities and the work we do.

We asked a few of our teammates to share what their heritage means to them, how they celebrate, and how it shows up in the way they approach their work.

We’re glad to have a workplace where those stories and experiences are celebrated, and we’re happy to recognize them this month. ❤️

As folks get ready to head back to school, we wanted to highlight a very special project at David Douglas High School.

The school’s new CTE Center is an embodiment of their motto “a place where connections are made”. Knitting together the campus and offering hands-on learning experiences, we’re so proud to have had the opportunity to work with the DDHS community to envision how career technical education can take center stage and connect students to the futures they choose.

Click the link in bio to watch the full video, and gracias to our collaborator Brau Diaz for this video showcasing the students and staff of DDHS!

As we get ready for the first day of school at Lake Oswego Middle School next week, we are reflecting on the ideas that drove design.

Throughout design, we heard from students and staff that connections to Pacific Northwest nature were important for the new school – and that if the school could connect to the local ecosystem and surrounding areas of the school, it “would help students feel like they belong more in our school.”

Deep research into the material, cultural, and ecological histories of the site and community shaped the school design. From colors, patterns, and textures to natural materials and native plants, the school celebrates the unique ecological characteristics of our region.

We look forward to seeing students, educators, and community members use the new LOMS for the first time this fall!

Join our team!

Do you believe great design starts with listening and visual storytelling? Are you ready to translate big ideas into powerful visual narratives?

BRIC is looking for a Graphic Designer and Visual Storyteller to help bring our architecture to life through diagrams, illustrations, publications, and digital media that make big ideas easy to understand and hard to forget.

This is not your traditional graphic design role. It's a chance to translate the vision behind community-centered architecture into visuals that move people, from proposal graphics that win transformative projects to workshop materials that give communities a voice in shaping their own spaces.

If you're a curious, collaborative creative who wants your portfolio to include work with real impact, we want to hear from you. Visit the link: https://www.bric-arch.com/about/careers/graphic-designer-and-visual-storyteller/

We’re excited to introduce our 2026 Summer Intern Cohort! The entire group brings so much curiosity and creativity to the office and we can't wait to see how their backgrounds and experiences shape their journeys with us.

Please join us as we welcome Nagelli, Jenny, Unique, and Yuxin to BRIC!

⭐Nagelli recently graduated from Portland State University this spring. She’ll support the Fowler Middle School team this summer and help lead our Pathways Storytelling initiative. If we're especially lucky, she might share some of her famous carrot cake with the office, too!

⭐Jenny first joined BRIC as a high school grad and now she’s gearing up for her fourth year at University of Oregon. This summer she’ll contribute to both Fowler Middle School as well as office-wide sustainability efforts. Outside of school, Jenny’s proud of her green thumb and her growing collection of bonsai and lucky bamboo.

⭐Unique is a recent University of Oregon grad and local Oregonian with strong connections to her Hmong heritage. She’ll be diving into projects across Oregon City School District this summer. Unique will also support design studies and help shape our sustainability initiatives.

⭐Yuxin is preparing to enter her third year as an architecture student at Cornell University. This summer, she'll be joining the Oregon City School District team, shaping sustainability initiatives, and collaborating with educators and community members through our Summer Summit event—all while on the hunt for the best food Portland has to offer!

We’re also excited to welcome Patricia back to BRIC for the summer, this time as an Emerging Professional and recent grad from Savannah College of Art and Design. After interning with us for two years, there’s no one better to lead and mentor this summer’s cohort!
