This week we’re celebrating ONE WHOLE YEAR of Kameron at A Modern Plantsman! 🕺
Here’s a little bit of lore about the guy for y’all… 🤪
First of all, Kam is a transplant from the Hoosier state of Indiana, but more recently moved out to Pullman from western Washington where he lived and worked for a bit at — get this — a zoo, and even another plant shop!
So imagine the amount of thrilled I was when this guy walks through the doors asking if we were hiring. Especially when he came to us at such an integral moment in the business’s history, just after we had survived several chaotic episodes and finally landed here at 165.
What’s even cooler is that our homeboy’s expansive experience in the plant world is actually more of an offshoot of something he has an even deeper love and appreciation for, which is animals.
If you didn’t know already, he’s studying at WSU for wildlife ecology and plans to pursue a career working with animals when he’s done.
Ask him about it, he’s a wealth of knowledge! Even unprompted, he’ll literally sit there and tell you all sorts of random stories and facts about slugs and porcupines, bears and bugs and reptiles, it’s good stuff. 💁♂️🐻🐌🦎
Naturally, we’ve spent a lot of time working together over the last year, and in that time I’d like to think I’ve gotten to know him pretty well. I think one of my favorite aspects of his personality is his ability to express his excitement.
For example, he got me into mountain biking this summer, and riding around on Moscow Mountain, we’ll be coming down the mountain pretty fast, of course it’s a whole-ass hoot, but the whole way you’ll just hear him whooping and yelping like a wild animal, it’s hilarious, and I can’t help but laugh to myself just thinking about it. That energy is contagious and so much fun to be around.
He’s a great guy, full of ambition and initiative, he’s a real go-getter and honestly I’m not sure where A Modern Plantsman would be without him today, as he’s given so much of himself to the survival of this business over this last year. Thanks Kam, we love and adore you, pls stay with us forever!!
Next time you see him, wish him big ol’ congrats on his one year!
