If you’ve ever tried to get on a contractor’s schedule in the spring, you probably already know where we’re going with this. 😂

They book up faster — and further out — than most people think.

Here in the Northwoods, our outdoor construction season is only so long. Once the weather turns and everyone starts thinking about decks, garages, additions and other outdoor projects at the same time, those spring and summer schedules can fill up QUICK.

So while it might feel a little early to be thinking about next year, it really isn’t.

Fall and winter are a great time to start the conversation, work through the details and get your project on the schedule before the spring rush hits.

So yes — we’re booking indoor projects for this winter.

But we’re also booking ahead for spring and summer 2027.

Whether you’ve got a bathroom or basement you’d like to tackle this winter, or a garage, addition, deck or other project you’re dreaming up for next year, now is a great time to get the ball rolling.

You don’t need to have it all figured out yet.

You just don’t have to wait until the snow melts to get started.

This one was a team effort. 👊

NB Home Improvements has been busy bringing this new garage build to life — adding some serious space and function to this property.

And when it came time to get everything covered? We knew a guy. 😉

Our sister company, J&N Roofing, took care of the new garage roof along with a new roof on the home so the entire property ties together.

One project. Two local crews. And a pretty great example of what we can accomplish together.

There’s still more to come on this one, and we’re looking forward to seeing it all finished up.

Getting a few estimates for a home project?

Good idea.

Just remember — the lowest number on the page doesn't always mean you're getting the best deal.

Before comparing the price at the bottom, take a look at what you're actually getting for it.

Are the same materials being used?

Is the scope of work the same?

What is — and isn't — included?

Are there parts of the project one contractor accounted for that another didn't?

Because two estimates can have very different numbers and still not be estimates for the same job.

Ask questions. Look at the details. And make sure you understand what you're paying for before making your decision.

A good contractor shouldn't have a problem helping you understand their estimate.

And that's usually right around the time you start noticing things.

Pinterest is great.

Until you realize the kitchen you saved belongs in a house three times the size of yours. 😂

The good news is, a remodel doesn't have to look exactly like somebody else's to be a really good one.

The best projects take the ideas you like and figure out how to make them work with **your space, your budget and the way your family actually lives.**

Sometimes that means a complete transformation.

Sometimes it means stealing one really good idea and leaving the rest on Pinterest where it belongs.

Before you decide you need a bigger house… take another look at the one you've got.

That unfinished basement? Potential living space.

The spare room nobody really uses? Maybe that's the office you've been needing.

An awkward kitchen and dining area? Sometimes changing the layout can completely change how the space feels.

Even removing or relocating a wall can make a home live a whole lot differently without adding a single square foot.

Sometimes the answer is an addition.

Sometimes it's simply making better use of what's already there.

And figuring out which one makes the most sense? That's where a good plan comes in.

There's something to be said for a good day's work.

For the people who build things, fix things, keep things running and aren't afraid to get their hands dirty doing it.

Not every project around the house needs a contractor.

We'll be the first ones to tell you that. 😂

Paint a bedroom? You can probably handle it.

Swap out some cabinet hardware? Go for it.

But once you're talking about moving walls, changing layouts, adding onto the house, structural work or a project involving several different pieces that all need to come together…

That's usually when having someone who knows what they're doing starts to matter.

Knowing how to build something is one part of the job.

Knowing what you're getting into before you start tearing things apart is another.

Just a friendly reminder that putting money into your house isn't *always* the same thing as spending money. 😉

Finish the basement? You're adding usable living space.

Build the garage? More storage, more function and no more scraping your windshield at 6 a.m. in January. That's worth something all by itself. 😂

Update the kitchen or bathroom? You get to enjoy it every single day — and those are improvements that can matter when it comes to the value of your home, too.
