Fall is one of our favorite times to work on decks! The cooler temperature allows our st****er to work longer before flashing off, stains are allowed to pe*****te deeper, and we also appreciate the cooler weather! It’s also great for homeowners to get their decks protected so we can resist moisture for our upcoming cooler and damper months.

We just need a little pumpkin spice in the trailer and we are in business!

Stripping means using a wood-safe chemical st****er to break down and lift the old stain, sealer, or paint off the wood. We rinse it away, brighten the wood, and let it dry before any new finish goes on.

Oil-based stain works by soaking into the wood fibers. If old finish is still sitting on the surface, the new stain can’t get in. It sits on top, peels, and fails early.

When stripping is necessary:
✅ The old finish is peeling, flaking, or cracking
✅ There’s a solid stain, paint, or film-forming sealer on the wood
✅ The old stain is patchy, blotchy, or a totally different color
✅ You want the wood’s natural grain to show through again

If the old finish is just faded and worn, a good cleaning may be all it needs. But when the wood is sealed off, stripping is the only way to get a stain that lasts.

We made it! It’s finally Friday. Wrapping up this week with one of our absolutely favorite things to do. Cleaning and stripping an old fence! It’s enjoyable for the instant gratification, the simplicity, and the cost savings to the home owner compared to replacement. Out with the old, in with the new! This deck is getting stripped for the last time before converting over to a penetrating oil. This was just after cleaning, no stain yet!
