Today we’re showing you how we transformed this beautiful alabaster marble lamp with a custom lampshade made from our Bridget Beari Buscemi wallpaper in Bastille Brass. The result? A fresh sophisticated look that gives this lamp a whole new personality.

The Designer Eye: Did you spot the mistake?

Welcome to our new Saturday Bridget Beari Design tip series, The Designer’s Eye! Each week will create a venue in our store with one intentional design mistake, and challenge you to figure out what’s missing or what needs to change.

This week, our console was missing one important detail: a layered piece of art!

Not every piece of art needs to be hung on the wall. In fact, I love leaning smaller pieces of art against larger artwork or mirrors to create depth dimension, and a more collected look.

By simply adding the framed piece of art to our console, we transformed the vignette from something that felt a little unfinished into a beautifully layered arrangement. It’s those little details that make a room feel thoughtfully designed rather than simply decorated. And that’s what we love to call living the mix here at the Bridget Beari Home Store.

Five essential tips for decorating your home. 🏠

After 35 years as an interior designer, there are a few decorating rules I come back to again and again. In today’s video, I’m sharing five of my essential tips for creating a home that feels layered collected and uniquely yours.

1️⃣ Always paint your ceiling a color.
Your ceiling is the fifth wall. Don’t automatically default to a white ceiling. A thoughtful color can completely change the feeling of a room.

2️⃣ Never match colors exactly.
Your paint doesn’t need to perfectly match your fabric, rug or Wallpaper. In fact it’s often better when it doesn’t. Look for colors that relate to one another rather than match exactly.

3️⃣ Every space needs something old.
An antique, vintage piece, family heirloom, or something with a little history, gives room character and keeps it from feeling brand new and predictable.

4️⃣ Create a collected room, not a suite of furniture
Skip the matching sets! Mix periods, material, shapes, finishes and styles. A great room should feel like it came together overtime. Around here, we call that living the mix.

5️⃣ Always add a touch of greenery
Real or faux, a little green brings life, softness and an organic element into the room. It’s often the finishing touch a space needs.
