Just a little plant PSA because we see this come up once in a while yes, plants can absolutely grow in water.Their roots may look different from roots grown in soil, and that’s completely normal. Water roots tend to be lighter, smoother and a little more delicate because they’ve adapted to living in water. Different does not mean unhealthy.
We have plants that have lived and grown in water for a long time with perfectly healthy root systems. As long as they’re getting what they need, there’s nothing wrong with growing them that way.
Funny enough, though, we hardly ever propagate in water. Most of our cuttings are started in moss. Moss gives us great root development and makes the transition into a potting mix easier when that’s where the plant is eventually headed. The pictures show both healthy water grown roots and the roots we get from propagating in moss.
Just because a plant is in water does not mean it is a propgation. A propgation is a cutting that is being rooted. A full healthy plant can live in water for years. However, the roots are different and will need a bit to acclimate if transferred to soil🥰
There are a hundred different ways to grow plants. Soil, water, moss, pon, LECA... plants really don't care about the internet arguments. 😂 If they're growing, putting out healthy roots and leaves, and you're keeping them happy, you're doing just fine. 🌱💚
