⚡ Are Your AFCI & GFCI Breakers Protecting Your Home? ⚡
Many homeowners never think about the breakers inside their electrical panel until something stops working. But modern AFCI and GFCI breakers play a critical role in protecting your home and your family.
🔌 AFCI (Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupter) breakers are designed to detect dangerous electrical arcing caused by damaged wires, loose connections, or deteriorating electrical components. Electrical arcs can generate enough heat to start a fire long before a standard breaker trips.
💧 GFCI (Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter) breakers help protect you from electrical shock by shutting off power in as little as 1/40th of a second when it detects a ground fault. GFCI’s are a critical safety device for areas where water and electricity may come into contact. You may also see these in the form of a receptacle with the little buttons on it in areas such as your kitchen, bathroom, garage, outside, or anywhere prone to moisture.
⚠️ Signs You May Have a Faulty AFCI or GFCI Breaker:
🔵 Breaker trips repeatedly without an obvious cause.
🔵 The breaker will not reset after being tripped.
🔵 It trips immediately after being reset.
🔵 The TEST button doesn’t function properly.
🔵 The breaker feels unusually warm or shows signs of discoloration.
🔵 You notice flickering lights or intermittent power on the affected circuit.
🔵 You replace the breaker and it no longer trips
While nuisance trips can sometimes indicate a failing breaker, they can also be warning signs of loose wiring, damaged outlets, failing appliances, or other electrical hazards that should never be ignored.
