Today is World Spina Bifida Day, and I want to take a moment to recognize my daughter, Anya.
Anya was born with spina bifida, a neural tube defect, and she’s had to face challenges most kids never have to think about. She’s met each new obstacle with more strength and grit than I could ever put into words.
You may have noticed I color my hair teal. Teal is the awareness color for spina bifida, and wearing it is one small way I can help bring awareness to the condition my daughter lives with.
But Anya is more than her diagnosis, and more than the things she’s had to overcome. She’s funny, determined, thoughtful, and entirely her own person. Her disability is part of her story, but it will never be the whole story.
I’m so proud of you, Anya. Today is a chance to raise awareness about spina bifida, but it’s also a chance to celebrate you 💙
