The Hot Mess Healer

Imagine it's the turn of the season and you happily walk into your garage, excited to begin decorating for the coming holidays. You walk past orderly cubbies arranged with your kids' sports gear, shelves of labeled painting supplies and gardening tools, and a photo-worthy pegboard hung over your workbench. As you approach the neatly lined bins of decor your eyes scan the labels for the holiday coming up. You easily slide out each bin knowing exactly what the contents hold. No searching. No struggling with stacked bins. No climbing over piles of outdoor toys or tools. Just you and the holiday magic you're about to spread throughout your house.

Hot Mess Magic 💫

09/17/2026

T’was the week after Labor Day when all through the house
Not a sibling was fighting (but maybe a work-from-home spouse)
All the moments of summer were scattered with care
If only the Hot Mess Healer were there..

The children had hustled all swift on the bus
With visions of friends and outdoor recess
Mama in her chaos, and the house a hot mess
Had just settled in for a house cleaning fest

When out in the driveway a Suburban pulled in
“Healer” on the window with a couple basket twins
Away to the counter Mama threw things in the drawer
“She’ll never have seen such a hot mess before!”

The shoes and the toys in the suddenly silent hall
Gave a whimsical nod to the crayon on the wall
When what to her overwhelmed eyes should appear
But a bossy little redhead with a bag full of gear

With a cute little tool bag and labeler in hand
Mama knew in a moment this day would be grand

More enthused than is normal to sort and to purge
She questioned and guided and sometimes assured

“To donate! To donate! To purge! Oh to keep!
No worries! No guilt! No duplicates please!”
To the top of the closet! To the very last shoe!
Now organize, organize, organize, you!”

As papers are filed and files are made
And planners are purchased and calendars saved
With baskets and bins and labels galore
Less and less items are found on the floor

Then, in the distance, Mom hears in the street
The school bus delivering so many little feet
As the Healer gathered up and turned with a grin
Off the ‘burban drove for a back-to-school win!

Happy First Full Week Back to School!
