Peninsula Clean Energy will pay up to $5,000 toward a heat pump. BayREN Home+ stacks on top of that in San Mateo County. Federal IRA tax credits layer on after. Most homeowners we talk to had no idea all three could land on the same project. đź’¸
Summer is when most of those projects actually happen. Longer days, easier scheduling, and a system that's already telling you it's tired of August.
Here's the part that trips people up: the order matters. PCE has contractor eligibility requirements. BayREN has its own paperwork. The IRA credit depends on what gets documented at install. Start in the wrong sequence and you can leave a real chunk of money on the table, even with a perfect installation.
A few questions worth asking before any contractor quotes you a heat pump this summer:
- Are you a PCE-approved installer for the full $5,000 tier?
- Will you file the BayREN Home+ paperwork, or is that on me?
- What documentation do I need saved for my IRA tax credit?
- Is the city permit pulled before work starts? (That permit protects your rebate eligibility and your homeowner's insurance.)
