UC San Diego Mandeville Art Gallery is featured in Metropolis's September/October edition!

The story covers how the existing building was preserved rather than converted into additional classrooms, giving the gallery an opportunity to evolve as a dedicated space for art and creative expression. The renovation revitalized the 2,360-square-foot gallery and transformed the building’s facade into a dynamic display for digital art, bringing new energy and visibility to the space.

We’re honored to celebrate Casa Familiar’s Living Rooms at the Border/Community Station, a San Diego Architectural Foundation Orchid recipient! Estudio Teddy Cruz, the project’s architectural designer, brought us on as Architect of Record. Congrats, Teddy, and thank you for trusting us with the project.

While Living Rooms at the Border is a subsidized housing project that opened in 2020, this award recognizes a separate community space spearheaded by UC San Diego in collaboration with Casa Familiar. The project restored a church built in 1927 and transformed the surrounding area into a vibrant place for social programming, community theater, and gathering.

Big congrats to Matt Hummel for winning the Studio E Architects Dip Challenge and earning the title of Dip Master! His Artery Blocker Dip, also known as the Onion Bacon Dip, stole the show and won everyone over. Want to try it for yourself? Check out the recipe on the last slide. Trust us, it’s addictive!

And then there were 4! Cuatro at City Heights is officially complete! Located on four parcels at the intersections of El Cajon Blvd and Interstate 15, and University Ave and Interstate 15 – these quadruplets bring 117 affordable family units to this dynamic community. The development stands-out and fits-in - with a bold design that reflects the neighborhood's vibrant character. Inspired by the area’s colorful commercial signage, transportation infrastructure, street murals and local iconic landmarks – Cuatro speaks the local dialect.

This project was made possible with an incredible team, including the Wakeland Housing & Development and the City Heights Community Development Corp, in collaboration with the City of San Diego and the San Diego Housing Commission. The A-List general contractor was Allgire General Contractors. Breadtruck Films expertly captured the project, highlighting its design, details, and residents.

This week, San Diego Architectural Foundation hosted an exciting tour of 10th & Robinson, giving the community a closer look at this thoughtfully designed multifamily project. Mathilda Bialk, our firm's Principal and Partner, joined the tour and shared insights into the project's design and vision.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with so many passionate individuals interested in architecture and this project.

Iris at San Ysidro has received an AIA San Diego Design Award! The awards ceremony took place at the Children's Museum, where we all got to reconnect with our inner child.

Iris at San Ysidro is a bold step towards transit-oriented affordable housing, placed on a triangular infill site next to the San Diego Trolley. This 100-home development is dedicated to serving extremely low- and very low-income households, including those transitioning out of homelessness.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible project partners, National Community Renaissance, consultants, and the entire Studio E team for bringing this vision to life. We’re so proud to see Iris celebrated by our local design community!
