We are a team of architects, planners & designers who transform people’s expectations of public pl Each single destination offers a multitude of experiences.

We are the physical choreographers behind serendipitous encounters, family outings and date nights in communities around America. As a creative team of architects, planners and designers, we consider every detail to lift people out of the mundane and subvert their expectations of public places. We infuse every building, and the spaces between, with thoughtful details that make people want to be there—and come back again and again. We create much more than public places—we design spaces that people seek out because they are full of delightful, unexpected details.

Last week, some of our senior leadership attended the 2026 Silver SPUR Awards. It was a great celebration of local leaders by an organization that shares many of our values: equality, sustainability and community. It was an honor to spend the evening with so many visionaries, business owners and advocates for the growth and prosperity of the Bay Area. The speakers included Mayor Daniel Lurie and House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, as well as others culminating with an inspiring performance by the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. Congratulations to all the honorees and thanks to SPUR for a memorable evening; we look forward to continuing to work along side you to make a better Bay Area for all!

At Field Paoli, we’re as passionate about food as we are about design. From restaurant projects like Culinary Dropout to specialty grocery like Whole Foods, we aspire to create spaces where everyday life, food, and community intersect. At a recent staff meeting, someone posed the question, “What restaurant would you recommend and what’s your favorite dish there?” The answers were diverse, ranging from great to-go spots to fine dining classics. Over the next few weeks, we’d like to share them with you. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Field Paoli had an incredible time at AIASF’s second annual Golf Classic at the Marin Country Club on Monday!

We showed up in full force with two teams with folks at Holland Partners, EFA, and Bauman Landscape ready to play, network, and connect with other incredible professionals and sponsors in our field. Beyond all the fun on the course, we are proud it was also for a great cause. All event proceeds directly benefit AIASF’s Youth Architecture Week, student scholarships, community outreach efforts, and vital industry advocacy initiatives.

Thank you to AIASF and everyone who made this day a hole-in-one!

Last week was the first (of what we hope will be many) Dolly Day Celebration, honoring the life and work of Dolly Parton. Although it was her singing, songwriting and acting that made her famous, much of Dolly’s impact came through her dedication to advocacy and philanthropy. Initiatives like the Buddy Up program, Imagination Library and the American Eagle Project as well as her contributions to LGBTQ+ advocacy, disaster relief and medical research made Dolly a true icon. She will forever stand as an inspiration to those who create community on every scale.

Pickle Athletics brings Oakland’s first social pickleball club to Telegraph Avenue, transforming a long-empty industrial space into a dynamic hub for sport, wellness, and community.

The first black-owned pickle ball club combines indoor courts with thoughtfully designed amenities—including recovery zones, a kitchen and bar, sauna, and lounge—to create an experience that extends well beyond the game. More than a place to play, Pickle Athletics is a social destination where members, and the public, can connect, recharge, and spend time together before and after matches or just come by to enjoy a glass of w**e and the vibe.

The design balances performance and hospitality, integrating active and social spaces to support both movement and interaction. By layering recreation with gathering, the project reflects a broader shift toward hybrid environments that foster health, connection, and everyday community life.

Field Paoli collaborated with the owners, Kady Pooler and Maryanna Quigless, Eric F. Anderson, Inc., Chromata Retail, and IDF Studio to bring this concept to life in Oakland.

How can architecture help create community?

Principal Yann Taylor shares his thoughts on how urban architecture creates the need for “interior design of outdoor rooms”.

In an urban environment, the character and feel of a neighborhood is often defined by the spaces between the buildings. A holistic approach to an area can establish an environment that draws people in and encourages them to stay a while, creating the basis for community.

What makes a place truly thrive?
Principal Yann Taylor reflects on the power of everyday interactions—those small, often overlooked moments that happen when people share space in the real world.
In a time when so much of life happens online, places like Stonestown offer something different: a chance to step out of the echo chamber and reconnect through simple, human exchanges.
From a quick conversation to a shared experience, these moments shape how we feel and how we relate to one another.
Designing for those interactions isn’t incidental. It’s intentional.
