I cannot believe one day we’ll have garden grown bananas. For our pond, We use the VIVOHOME 1580GPH Bio Pressure Pond Filter with 13W light and has a multi-sized adapter. I am so happy these three pups transplanted well and soon I’ll be getting ready to share pups with others who want them!

Still can’t get over seeing passionfruit sold for $4 to 5 at grocery stores. These lines easily grow in our 9B coastal climate and once established only need occasional attention to trim the vines back and harvest the passionfruit. Love this time of year and all things passionfruit!

Our garden supervisor is exhausted dealing with the humans…

Our soil is filled with toxins from our neighbors deciding to break the law, threaten our homes with fire, and scare all local animals. Did you see you can’t even go outside in DC today due to danger to health. What are we doing here people?!

The cleaning process for our garden includes:

1. Protect yourself
Wear a well-fitting N95 mask and thick rubber gloves before touching anything. Firework soot consists of ultra-fine particulate matter (PM2.5) that is easily inhaled and can permanently lodge in lung tissue.

2. Dry scrape the topsoil
Do not spray the area with water yet. Water dissolves perchlorates and metal salts, driving them straight into the deeper root systems and groundwater. Use a flat shovel to scrape off the top 2 to 3 inches of soil and ash.

3. Securely discard the waste
Double-bag the contaminated soil and spent firework casings in heavy-duty trash bags. Dispose of them in your regular municipal landfill trash. Never place this debris into a compost bin, yard waste bin, or local community green waste stream.

4. Replace the soil matrix
Dig out the affected area and refill it with clean, imported topsoil mixed with a high volume of premium organic compost. The organic matter binds tightly to heavy metals, reducing their bioavailability so plants cannot easily absorb them.

Heavy, angry day.

It’s fine. Everything’s fine. This really was a great route for families trying out a via ferrata! A bit behind on day by day videos where I’ll share more but couldn’t help making this little clip.
