Most hallways are just a way to get from one room to the next. Coley’s became the part of the house that feels most like her.

When Coley Arnold, founder of and mom of four boys, set out to design her collection with us, she wanted a home that felt collected, not curated. So we started with the space everyone walks straight through. Geometric Textile in Warm Linen on the walls. Painted Stripe in Slate Blue on the ceiling. All peel and stick, finished in a single day.
Next time you walk down your hallway, look up. What could that ceiling be?

Confession: I’ve spent 17 years helping people choose wallpaper, and I still froze when it came to my own laundry room.

It’s stark white. Every wall, every cabinet. I want to change that, but every time I pictured adding color, I worried I’d pick the wrong one.

So I did what I always tell you to do. I got samples. With a skylight and tons of natural light in here, a color can look completely different on my walls than it does on a screen. I’m testing the Balance stripe in Thyme, Pewter and Smoke Blue, from our collection with Kristen Forgione - Interior Design , so I know exactly how it will look once it’s on all three walls.

If you’ve been staring at white walls too, you’re in good company. What’s the room you keep putting off?

Following my laundry room decision? It’s all saved in the Laundry Room highlight.

An art studio should feel like art the second you walk in.

The The Art House Gilbert had a plain white wall and a bigger vision for it. So we gave it a black and white diamond pattern, panel by panel, until the whole wall had personality.

Now it’s the backdrop for everything that happens there: the paint bottles, the splattered aprons, the creative mess. The wall isn’t the art. It just makes everything in front of it look even better.

If you’re near the studio, go see it in person, and maybe make something while you’re there.

Have a wall that’s been waiting for something bolder? This is your sign.

Pattern on pattern doesn’t have to feel like a gamble.

The trick is to let the busier pattern make the decisions. Noir Garden is full of color, so instead of guessing, I pulled colors straight out of the florals and fruit and tried them as big, wide stripes.

First deep teal. Then soft green. Then I kept the green and swapped the florals for [pattern name] to see how the stripe changed with a lighter pattern.

If you’ve ever stood in the paint aisle second-guessing yourself, this is your sign to start with the pattern you love and build from there.

Which one would you live with? 1, 2 or 3?

Okay, be honest. Did you think this was wallpaper?

These are our Inked Leaves decals, hand-painted with black ink and water for that soft, moody look. Every leaf goes up one at a time, which means you’re the one deciding where they land. Spaced out and airy, clustered and full, wrapped around a window. It’s your wall.

And look what it did for a laundry room. The room nobody plans to decorate became the room you actually want to walk into.

You don’t pick wallpaper at the table. You pick it on the wall.

Before anything went up in Coley’s home, we spread every sample across her dining table. Stripes, checks, florals, all of it. Then we carried them room by room and held them where they’d actually live: the hallway, the bathroom, even up near the ceiling (keep that one in mind).

Some looked perfect flat on the table and lost something on the wall. Others surprised us. And deciding together made the whole thing feel less like a big commitment and more like play.

If you’re stuck choosing, start here: order a few samples, tape them up where they’ll go, and look at them in morning light and at night before you decide.
