💫4 celestial Dogwoods💫

The Celestial® Dogwood (Cornus × rutgersensis 'Rutdan') is a hybrid ornamental tree developed by Dr. Elwin R. Orton Jr. at Rutgers University. It is created by crossing the native flowering dogwood (Cornus florida) with the Asian kousa dogwood (Cornus kousa) as part of the Stellar® series.

Key Characteristics

• Size: Grows to a compact mature height of 14 to 18 feet and a spread of 12 to 15 feet, making it ideal for smaller yards, entryways, or near patios.
• Flowers: Produces large, star-like white floral bracts (3 to 5 inches across) that emerge with a green tinge and gently blush pink as they age.
• Foliage & Fall Color: Dark green summer leaves transform into vibrant purple-red shades in the autumn.
• Sterility: The tree is sterile and does not produce fruit or berries.
• Disease Resistance: Bred for high resistance to common dogwood issues, including dogwood anthracnose and dogwood borers.

Growing Conditions

• Hardiness Zones: USDA Zones 5 through 9.
• Sunlight: Thrives in full sun to partial shade (with protective afternoon shade recommended in hotter climates).
• Soil: Prefers moist, well-drained, acidic soil.

Cherokee Princess Dogwood (Cornus florida 'Cherokee Princess') is a popular, heavy-blooming cultivar of the native American flowering dogwood. It is widely celebrated for producing an abundance of large, pure-white flower bracts at a younger age than standard seed-grown dogwoods.

15 to 30 feet tall and 15 to 35 feet wide (typically maturing around 20–25 feet)

Bloom Time: Early spring (April), opening slightly earlier than wild-type dogwoods

• Flowers: Large, flat-opening white petal-like bracts (3–4 inches across) surrounding tiny yellowish-green flower clusters

• Fall Color: Brilliant shades of red, crimson, and reddish-purple

• Wildlife Value: Produces red berries in late summer/fall that attract songbirds and songbird species.
