I finally cleaned out my worm bin!
Ideally, this should be done around every six months, and my bin was somewhere around nine months. So, I made the work harder for myself, but the job got done, and I was left with a whole lot of worm castings (a.k.a. warm p**p).
A few fun facts that I’ve learned about my little composting crew:
🪱 Worms don’t have teeth! Instead, food is ground up in their gizzard, so we give composting worms a little grit, such as finally crushed eggshells, to help them digest their food.
🪱 Each worm has both male and female reproductive organs, but they still need another worm to reproduce.
🪱 Baby worms hatched from tiny cocoons!
My worms should be pretty happy with their freshly cleaned home. Next time I harvest the castings I think I’ll have too many worms. I’ll either need to start a second bin or gift some worms to a friend.
Do you have a worm bin at home?
