🩺 TODAY’S HEALTHCARE DECODE: What Does “A1C” Mean?
You may hear your doctor say, “We’re going to check your A1C.”
But what exactly is it?
🩸 A1C is a blood test that gives an estimate of your average blood sugar over the past 2–3 months.
In general:
✅ Below 5.7% — considered normal
⚠️ 5.7%–6.4% — prediabetes range
🔴 6.5% or higher — may indicate diabetes
One important thing to know: A1C is different from a regular blood sugar check. A glucose reading tells you your blood sugar at that moment, while A1C gives a bigger-picture view.

A1C = the bigger picture 🖼️
Your healthcare provider considers your full medical history and may repeat testing before making a diagnosis.
