Fall is the perfect time to start planning projects for 2027. One of the most effective ways to keep a renovation moving is to invest in thoughtful design, thorough planning, and good logistics before construction begins. The decisions made early on have a real impact on how smoothly a project unfolds.

And don’t forget to look beyond the walls of your home. Exterior spaces deserve a place in the planning process, too. Patios, gardens, outdoor kitchens, and the transitions between indoors and out are all part of creating a home that feels cohesive and considered from the ground up.

Do you ever think about the organization and planning that happen behind the scenes of a design project?

Whether we’re working on a renovation or a furnishing project, our specification book—the written record of the design—is the thread that ties everything together. It serves as our roadmap and a shared resource for the entire team, ensuring that every detail is documented and built out as designed.

It may not be the most glamorous part of the process, but it is one of the most essential. Good design requires more than a beautiful concept; it requires the structure, communication, and coordination to make it happen.

If you’re considering a renovation, an update, or furnishing your home in 2027, now is the time to start the conversation. Thoughtful planning today lays the groundwork for a smoother, more successful project tomorrow.

Photographing a house is a combination of cardio, hurry-up-and-wait, and making pretty pictures. It’s a long day, but a good reminder that the days are long and the years are short.

Thank you, and team, for always making photo days so much fun!

We have been featured in , and we can't contain our excitement and gratitude!

We’re still smiling over this one. Being featured in is a true honor, and this home holds a special place for us. It was a joy to work with such a talented, generous team, and we’re so grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life.

It began with a simple brief: refresh the kitchen and baths, update the porch, and furnish a 1960s home on two quiet acres in West Sonoma County. Then, on our first walkthrough, we couldn’t “un-see” a new floorplan. The kitchen belonged where the living room was and we needed to add a trio of windows to flood the space with the most lovely dappled light.

From there the project grew. The old kitchen became a mudroom (with a dog-washing station), the family room anchored the home, and we carried the vaulted ceiling through the main spaces, painted a warm white so the house reads lighter. We drew from the landscape outside, with greens, blues, and reds in the cabinetry and upholstery, then layered pattern on pattern on pattern. Millwork, antiques, and vintage finds gave it the feeling of a home that’s been loved for generations.

None of it happens alone. Thank you to Peters Construction for building it with such care, to artist Jennifer Shada for the hand-painted cabinet interior, and to the makers, installers, and vendors who brought each detail to life. Thank you to Rachel Forslund for styling this home to perfection and to Stephanie and Rico Russo for making every single shot look amazing. And thank you to and Anh-Minh Le for telling the story in “A Countryside Charmer.”

An ode to wallpaper—which, in my opinion, never goes out of style. With endless choices and so many ways to introduce color, pattern, and texture, wallpaper has a way of transforming a room like few other materials can. It’s a design element we return to again and again, and one we almost always find a place for in our projects.

Which one is your favorite?
