Our Giving Grove

Our Giving Grove We’re Joe and Sara—the two people behind Our Giving Grove! We create fun, original planters for people who like something a little different.

From our hanging bats to personalized designs, we print, finish, and pack each order from our own home. About Us – Our Giving Grove

Our Giving Grove is a small, family-run shop built around two things we love: plants and creativity. Sara is the heart of it. She’s a pre-K teacher with a naturally creative mind, a love for people, and a real gift for growing plants. She hand-crafts every kokedama we sell, often using plants she has grown herself from seed or propagated at home. She puts a lot of thought into which plants work well together and which ones thrive in this type of display. A kokedama is a Japanese-inspired way of presenting a plant where the roots are wrapped in soil, shaped into a ball, and covered with moss. The plant grows out of the moss ball, giving you a sculptural, natural look that can sit on a stand or hang. It’s one of our specialties, but far from the only thing we make. Joe is the manager of the operation—the one making sure everything runs the way it should. He handles advertising, organizing, behind-the-scenes setup, and connecting with people. With over 20 years in sales and a love for technology, he keeps the business side moving. And if you stop by our table, he’s always ready to talk NFL or MLB with anyone while Sara talks plants. We grow a wide range of houseplants, from everyday favorites to harder-to-find varieties. We pair them with our own custom 3D-printed pots and accessories to give each plant its own personality. We also create earrings, keychains, plant buddies, and other plant-inspired items as ideas come to us. Everything is designed, printed, grown, crafted, and prepared by us at home. The name Our Giving Grove is a nod to Sara’s favorite book, The Giving Tree, and also a play on our hometown, Selinsgrove. It fit what we wanted to build and just sounded right. This shop is our way of sharing what we love with our community and having fun while we do it. Hope you enjoy what you see!

☁️🍂 It may be a cool, cloudy fall day, but there's still plenty of beauty to be found! 🌿💚

One of our succulents (Stapelia Orbea Variegata or Starfish Cactus) decided to brighten things up with this incredible bloom, and we couldn't resist sharing! 😍

From its unique star-shaped petals to those amazing yellow and burgundy patterns, nature really outdid itself with this one!

Sometimes the most unexpected plants give us the most beautiful surprises. 🌸

🌱 **Fun Plant Fact:** These unusual starfish-shaped flowers are known for sometimes having a rather unpleasant smell to attract pollinators. But lucky for us, this beauty gives us all the gorgeous blooms without the stink! 😂

It's little surprises like this that remind us why we love plants so much! 💚

**🌸 Now it's your turn!** We'd love to see what's blooming in your home! Whether it's something unusual like this beauty or a favorite flowering houseplant, drop a picture in the comments and show us what you've got growing! 🌿💚

We’ve been getting some really awesome reviews lately, and we seriously appreciate every single one of them. However, they are all on Etsy and we would love for other people who don't use Etsy to know about us.
If you’ve purchased from us online or at an event we were a part of, we’d love it if you would leave us a review on our page or Google page. Reviews help small businesses like ours more than most people realize. They help new customers feel comfortable ordering, help people find us, and honestly just make Sara and me feel pretty good about what we’re doing.

We know everyone is busy, so even a quick review means a lot!

🦇☀️ Our bats are living their best lives in Key West!

Meet Carrie from Key West, Florida, who purchased 11 bats from us! Clearly she put in the work to give them an incredible home! Her fence is lined with bats and skulls filled with LIVE plants, thriving in that beautiful Key West sunshine. 🌿💀 How cool is this setup?!

We design and make these little guys right here in Pennsylvania, but seeing where they end up—and the creativity you bring to them—is one of our favorite parts of Our Giving Grove. Carrie took our bats and made something completely her own, and we love it! 🖤
Carrie, thank you for supporting our little business and sharing your beautiful space with us. Eleven bats is quite a colony! 🦇
And to all our customers around the world: every order, photo, review, and kind word means so much to us. You’re helping something we started in our home become part of homes everywhere. We don’t take that for granted. ❤️

📸 Have one of our creations? Drop a picture in the comments and tell us where it calls home! We’d love to see it.

Carl’s shorts made it into a vending machine! 😂

The owner of Colorado Creative Vending reached out after seeing our shorts planters online. Her machines highlight small businesses and artists, and she wanted to add ours with a little air plant. We thought that was such a cool idea, so we licensed our design for her to sell!

Here they are in her Halloween-themed machine! Fans of Dungeon Crawler Carl will recognize the white boxers with red hearts—the Enchanted BigBoi Boxers.
Thanks Nicole Morris for the shorts idea, and thank you to Colorado Creative Vending, for including Our Giving Grove!

Today is World Mental Health Day, and it got me thinking about how much plants have helped Sara and me.
Looking through these pictures of us and Stella, I realized it’s about more than the plants. It’s the time together, getting our hands dirty, and slowing down long enough to enjoy what’s right in front of us.
Well… we slowed down until the bats came along. 😂🦇
I never thought I’d be the guy getting excited over a new leaf, but here we are. Plants have helped me notice and appreciate little things I probably would’ve walked right past before. Watching something grow that you’ve been taking care of is pretty satisfying.

Sara always tells me, “All these plants in the house are good for your asthma, too.” I’m pretty sure that’s her way of getting another plant through the door.
But I can honestly say they’ve helped our mental health. Sometimes watering plants or checking for new growth is enough to get me out of my own head for a little while.
Even now, with orders to fill and bats everywhere, we still need those moments.
Have plants helped you too? I’d love to hear about it.
