Concrete tile outlives everything except its details 🏠

Repair day on a tile roof. The field tiles are fine and could go decades more. The failure points are smaller: slipped tiles, cracked corners, and the sealed joints along ridges and rakes.

🧱 Swipe for the close-up: fresh mastic locking the edge courses down, replacement tiles staged where the broken ones came off.

πŸ”¨ The craft is walking it without making new work. Concrete tile carries weight only where it is supported, so every step lands on the lower third of the tile.

πŸ“ Bakersfield, CA 🟦 Fresh mastic, reset tiles, done.

A roof, removed and rebuilt, in six swipes 🏠

Complete tear-off and reroof, documented the way the crew actually ran it.

πŸ”¨ Frame one: stripped to the boards, tarps down, ladder set. Then the deck cleared and checked, bundles staged along the ridge, and the nail gun working under the biggest straw hat in the Central Valley.

🧱 The deck stage is the part that matters most and photographs least. Shingle only lies flat if the wood under it is sound, so frames two and three are where this roof was actually saved.

πŸ‘€ Last frame is the finish: new field, new caps, skylights seated.

πŸ“ Bakersfield, CA 🟦 Torn off, rebuilt, capped.

Everything in this shower is red on purpose πŸŸ₯

A shower rebuild, mid-remodel. Every surface in that alcove is coated in waterproofing membrane before a single tile goes up.

🧱 Tile and grout are not waterproof. They shrug off most water and quietly pass the rest through. The membrane behind them is what actually keeps a shower out of the framing.

πŸ”¨ The pan gets built and sloped first, the corners get reinforced, and the whole box cures into one continuous shell.

⚑ Then the subway tile starts climbing, and nobody ever sees the red again. That is the job: the most important layer is the one that disappears.

πŸ“ Bakersfield, CA 🟦 Waterproof first, pretty second.

Large format porcelain, mid-set, from the crew's files. Spacers in the joints, leveling clips pulling every edge flush.

πŸ”¨ A plank this long shows every hollow in the floor twice. The prep is the job: the slab gets flattened before the first trowel of thinset ever goes down.

⚑ The clips are the quiet heroes. They clamp neighboring edges level while the bed cures, so no corner sits proud to catch a shadow or a sock.

πŸ‘€ Spacers and clips come out after cure, and what is left is a floor that reads like one piece.

πŸ“ Shafter, CA 🟦 Flat, level, tight.

Consider this the cover. The stories run all week πŸ“°

FIELD NOTES: the jobsite, explained. A run of designed sheets from the crew, starting with the roof.

πŸ”¨ On the cover: the parts of a roof that actually keep water out, and where roofs really fail first.

🧱 Inside this week: six checks before every pour, and large format tile laid flat, straight off one of our floors.

πŸ‘€ The full roof sheet, every layer labeled, drops next. Save the series as it runs.

One address, four trades deep on the exterior 🏠

A full exterior remodel in Bakersfield, out of the crew's files. Roof, paint, hardscape, and a new gate, all on one house.

πŸ”¨ Up top it is a complete reroof in composition shingle, dark enough to hold a clean line against the fresh stucco.

⚑ The paint scheme is two-tone on purpose: white body, near-black roof, trim, and garage. High contrast reads sharp from the street and hides nothing about the prep underneath.

🧱 At ground level the yard got rebuilt: a paver walk set into new turf, rock beds cut along the foundation, new lawn, and a horizontal slat gate to close the line.

πŸ‘€ Swipe for the spec sheet and the close-ups.

πŸ“ Bakersfield, CA 🟦 Roof, paint, hardscape, gate. One crew.

This weeks work features electrical work, finishing touches on our interior build, and exterior work ⚑

Open the door on finished electrical work and you can read the whole system at a glance. That is the test.

πŸ”¨ Breakers landed in one straight column. Conductors bent and routed so every wire has a path instead of a pile.

🧱 The directory goes inside the door. Whoever opens this panel next finds the circuit they need without guessing at it.

πŸ‘€ Look past the box and the wall is still in wire lath. Stucco comes behind us, and this gray door ends up flush and forgettable.

🏠 There is another box on the ground in the wide shot, waiting its turn.

A new room where an open den used to be πŸ”¨

First frame is the before and after: an arched den open to the house, then a framed wall with bypass doors right where the opening was

🧱 The new wall carries transom framing up top, so the room keeps borrowed light without giving up privacy

πŸ”¨ Four days from open floor to doors hung. Carpet stayed in and protected the whole way through

⚑ Drywall and paint close it out from here, and the framing disappears into a wall like it was always there
