Red Velvet - I don’t usually love red flowers but this one will always have a place in my garden for its easy growing habits and wonderful velvety petals. I’m actually adding more red waterlily to my gardens next year to see if I’d like any of them too.

Sidehill Stella - one of my top 3 favorite Sidehill from Ray Philips (the others are Sidehill Bonnie & Sidehill Trishie). She’s not quite a stellar and more of a informal decorative form and looks really good in arrangements.

Hapet Lagoon - her second season here and she finally gave me blooms. They were worth the wait though, large lavender blooms (5-6”) from a fairly tall plant (4.5’ and higher). I’d love to see her next to my other lavender WL favs Kari Bkue, Hollyhill Leda & Hapet Blue Sea

Another look at Florelie Oracle 🇦🇺 it’s hard to capture the true colors of the blooms so I tried different lightings to show how they look. In person, it’s a combination of mauve, lavender and dusty rose, plus the gold tips. One of the best things about this variety beside the gorgeous color and form is the stem length - very straight and long - perfect for both show and cut flowers

Sandia Gold - very prolific, maybe just right after Sandia Bertha. I honestly have a complicated relationship with all the Sandia WLs. I love them but they don’t seem to super thrive in my environment and their blooms seem to be smaller than what they should be too. They’re super prone to disease and bug damages here. I’m trying to be patient and allow more growing seasons to let them be more established but I only have so much space in my small garden. Decision decision 🙃

Florelie Oracle - the bloom is on the smaller size around 4” but it’s super symmetrical and the color is perfect. There’s been several storms here so I’ve been busy cleaning the aftermath. This season has been a difficult one with not a ton of blooms and lots of insect, powdery mildew, heat and storm damage. I’m hoping to have at least another month of growing season to confirm blooms and collect some seeds.

A few small arrangements I made in the past to give to friends and neighbors. I usually use recycled jars and similar for flowers I’m giving away, but they really limit the styles I can do with them, the openings are usually pretty narrow so I often feel like the arrangements are too tight and top-heavy. My new goal is to make them more loose and airy despite the containers.

20th Ave Rayna share with me by the lovely Lynn Kerr-Sherman. It took 2 seasons for her to bloom. I’m on the fence about this one, the form is great just like all the 20th Ave dahlias, this shade of purple though isn’t my favorite and it was hard to incorporate into my arrangements. So I may have to say goodbye to it.

Lee’s Starchild - one of my favorite color combos is white + lavender so I like to collect varieties in this combo and grow them out to. I like the blooms of Lee’s Starchild well enough but not super unique to me. So I’m gonna give it a second season to see if it would WOW me or not.

Lyn’s Lexi produces gorgeous big dark pink/purple blooms with high petal count and cup nicely. I lost her last year but my friend Lynn Kerr-Sherman was generous enough to share her stock with me this year 🥰
