Moshe Safdie believes that when plants thrive indoors, so do people. Safdie Architects plans light, irrigation and drainage into its buildings from the start, so that gardens like the one at Jewel Changi Airport can flourish year-round.

When Moshe Safdie designed Virasat-e-Khalsa in Punjab, he started by studying the culture. He worked with Sikh scholars, traveled across Punjab, and listened to Sikh music throughout the design process. The museum has since been embraced by the community it serves.

Moshe calls this the architecture of belonging: buildings that the people they serve recognize as their own.

Brooklyn’s first Carnegie library is getting its daylight back.

Pacific Library has served downtown Brooklyn since 1904. Over the past century, alterations removed its original roof and skylight and paved over a sunken courtyard.

Safdie Architects is restoring the building for Brooklyn Public Library with AYON Studio, Architect of Record and Preservation Architect.

The renovation restores the original roof shape and recreates its skylight. A new interior skylight at the upper level carries sunlight down to the main library floor.

Excavation around the building opens the lower level to daylight and makes room for gardens of birch, ivy, and ferns, where a new two-story solarium will hold the children’s room and the teen room.

The design builds on community input the Library has gathered since 2019. It adds new classrooms for the Adult Learning program, a sidewalk-level entry, and a new elevator.

Working in collaboration is how the best learning and design happens.

This summer’s interns were Sylvana Kam, a co-op student from the University of Waterloo, and Tengxin Sun, Aries Wang and Yejin Joe, M.Arch students at Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

Airports are gateways, and in principal cities they become gateways to the nation.

A preview weekend ahead of the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art expansion opening June 6th.

We are grateful to everyone at , and especially to Alice Walton, Olivia Walton, and Rod Bigelow, for their vision and partnership in bringing this expansion to life.

The new galleries open up space for an expanded collection of American art, and one of the highlights of the weekend was meeting so many of the artists whose work now lives here.

It was an honor to share the moment alongside distinguished guests including President Bill Clinton and Secretary Hillary Clinton, Arianna Huffington, Martha Stewart and so many more.

From the Safdie Architects team, Partners Moshe Safdie, Chris Mulvey, and Jaron Lubin were on site with Principal Matt Longo to celebrate the building and the community gathered around it.

For everyone, a place to experience art, architecture, and nature together.

"Designed by the Boston-headquartered firm Safdie Architects, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art consists of a series of concrete and glass structures linked by “bridges” over a natural ravine shaped into ponds and surrounded by woods and trails.

On 6 June, a new segment of the museum will open downstream, adding 114,000 sq. ft to allow more space for its growing collection and art-and-wellness programming," writes Scarlet Cheng for The Art Newspaper.

The Arkansas museum now has 50% more space for its ever-expanding collection and art-and-wellness programming
