Mike Murphy purchased Grower's Outlet from Bill Stamey and his wife Cherry on September 1, 2001. At that time, the business was located on Independence Blvd. in Charlotte, NC. Mike had been in the corporate world for several years and was anxious to not only get to the fresh outdoors but end the practice of going to the Charlotte Airport on Monday mornings. The business stayed on Independence Blvd. until January 1, 2004. It then moved to Lowesville, NC, a little town located 22 miles north on busy Highway 16 on the southern tip of Lake Norman. (The highway is now called Business 16. Click on Contact Us for directions.) The area showed promising growth, and continues to grow today at a pace faster than the state's average. The new retail outlet opened on April 3, 2004 as Mike's Growers Outlet. It doubled in size from the Independence location and also has an additional 6.5 acres for growing inventory and back-up stock. Mike's Growers Outlet has an inventory that includes from the smallest size plants up to ball and burlap size trees and shrubs. We also have many sizes in between. Most are purchased in truck-load quantities allowing for very competitive pricing and the buying clout to receive the best product. We stock not only the common gardening items and landscaping plants, but love to find hard-to-find varieties. We deal with many growers and if a customer wants a plant we don't have in stock, we can often get it for the customer. Visit Mike's and you will be warmly greeted. Our staff is comprised of plant lovers and they enjoy talking with you about plants and planting ideas. Please stop by and see us.
