Weโre excited to share a new construction custom home project weโve been blessed to plan out. This build showcases the importance in choosing the right roofing system for the right slope, and how that makes all the difference. This home has multiple roof slopes at different angles. Thatโs where most contractors get it wrong. A one-size-fits-all approach doesnโt work here.

At 1/12 slope, asphalt shingles are out of the question. Architectural shingles max out at 3/12 slopeโanything lower, and water will find its way under. Thatโs a recipe for water intrusion, mold, and structural damage. Hereโs what weโre doing instead:

โ High-temp ice and water shield under the entire plywood layer

Unlike exposed fastener ribbed metal, standing seam handles low slopes without sacrificing aesthetics or durability. You also get a maintenance-free, 50+ year lifespan and that durability is simply worth the investment.

Metal expands and contracts. Without that second waterproofing layer, youโre relying solely on the metalโs seams, and on a 1/12 slope, even tiny gaps become big problems.
