I'm going to repost this and explain what's going on a little better, we have a stair that was tiled, I know weird, the homeowner removed it all and we are placing hickory tread covers on the particle board treads, the riser material stays, on the first flight here there is an overhang cap on the stringer that is non removable, the tread is measured with a stair jig and cut to the exact size, however the tread cannot drop straight down or slide in from the front due to the overhang stringer cap on the right, the tread has to tip in. Since the nose of the tread is 2 and a half inches tall the diagonal measurement is almost a quarter inch greater making it unable to swing in. I had no idea how to get the treads in. So I stopped at home depot and bought a 4 inch long half inch diameter carriage bolt nut and washers and I brought some oak sticks, I bored a hole in the stick and made a spreader jack, it was the only way to get the treads in, luckily the stringers spread enough to get the treads in, and sprung back when the spreader was removed. It seems like so many times we get stuck on doing what is seemingly impossible, and come up with a way to make it work, have a great day...
