Fig of the Day!
Crozes

From Dordogne in Southwest France. This Mount Etna type is related to Chicago Hardy. We find this one to be more vigorous with the same proven cold hardiness.
Early ripening and very productive medium size fruit with a closed eye that helps keep fruit clean and resists souring and splitting in humid weather. Bears two crops with a reliable main crop even in short season areas. Deeply lobed leaf typical of the hardy Mount Etna family.
Inside is striking red pulp. Rich berry flavor with creamy and jammy texture.

We harvest cuttings in December when fully dormant for best rooting.

Interested in this variety? Save it to your cutting list.

Fig of the Day!
LSU Strawberry

LSU Strawberry is not an official LSU release. It was found as a single tree growing at the St Gabriel sugarcane propagation site marked Strawberry on the LSU field map and was discovered in their trial orchard after the breeding program ended. It has been kept as an elite selection for its vigor and reliability in the hot and humid Deep South.

The tree produces medium sized fruit that stays bright green on the outside when ripe with a strawberry red interior. It is known for excellent rain resistance and vigorous growth in southern heat and produces a sweet strawberry flavor with a thick jammy texture that many growers describe as tasting like fresh strawberry jam.

Wow. 20,000 of you are following Fig Trees USA. Thank you.

If you've ever been curious about Fig Trees USA, here's what we're all about.

In 2014 I took over the care of our family's fig trees. I didn't know anything about figs at the time, but I got hooked. When I retired from the US Coast Guard in 2020 it was time to figure out the next 20 years. The goal was to do something truly enjoyable, and for me that was figs.

Going all in on a fig tree nursery felt like a big leap. We did it anyway and built Fig Trees USA.

Fig Trees USA is simple. Every variety we offer has gone through our own years long verification process before its first sale. We provide pictures, videos, and documentation so you can judge for yourself. That's what our Fig of the Day series is. We're sharing that verification process. We're documenting our own experience with each variety and giving a little background on each one, so you can see what it looks like, hear what it tastes like, and save our reels to build your own wish list or verify your own trees.

We grow all of our trees and cuttings right here on our farm. Every one is held to the standard of what I would want if I were buying it.

Thank you for your likes, comments, shares, and saves. That engagement tells Facebook our content has value and it is a big reason this farm has been able to succeed. You are helping us build our reputation as a trusted resource in this community and we are so grateful for that. We see a bright future ahead.

With gratitude,
Chris

Fig of the Day!
White Algiers

This fig is a treasured Algerian heirloom found growing by a stone quarry above Hama Gardens in Algiers and introduced to the United States in 1901 as a very valuable variety also listed early as Hamma. It produces medium to large figs with light green skin that stay green when perfectly ripe and a bright red interior that is very juicy and full of nectar.
This was our first season fruiting this variety here in 7a New Jersey. The texture had light seed crunch and was very juicy with nectar throughout. The flavor was quite interesting with sweet strawberry watermelon notes that were bright and refreshing. A unique and sweet first tasting from our collection at Fig Trees USA.

Fig of the Day!
Col de Dame Noir

An heirloom French variety from the famous Col de Dame family meaning Neck of the Lady for its long neck. Also grown as Coll de Dama Negra in Spain. A mid to late season variety that produces a single outstanding main crop. First ripe fruit picked here in early September in zone 7a.
Thin skin ripens to dark purple black with a long elegant neck. Deep red jammy interior with an extremely thick creamy texture unique to the Col de Dames. Flavor is deliciously rich and tangy berry jam with cherry and honey notes and a sweetness that can even drip honey from the eye.

My first Coll de Dama Gegantina of the season and everything I remember. This variety from the Montserrat Pons Collection is one of my absolute favorite figs.

Fig of the Day!
Gayet

This variety originates from the Dordogne area of southwestern France. It makes pear shaped fruit with yellow green skin and a ruby red, jammy center. The flavor is sweet with berry and honey notes, fruity and very juicy with nectar when fully ripe.
It is cold hardy and productive, often giving two crops one in July and September. In our unheated greenhouse this past winter many varieties suffered cold damage. Gayet came through with no dieback.
