Learn all about Nerium Oleander privacy screens and windbreaks at North County Trees. In this video, Mike walks through the benefits of planting oleander, which is grown in white, pink, and red flowering varieties.
Oleanders thrive in heat, resist drought, wind, and salt, and grow fast to heights between 10 and 20 feet. Space them 4 to 6 feet apart on-center for a dense, interlocked privacy screen, or 6 to 8 feet apart for a natural boundary hedge. Because oleander is unpalatable and toxic, it is 100% deer-proof and gopher-resistant, eliminating the need for underground root cages.

Important Care & Safety Notes:
Plant in full sun (6+ hours daily) for maximum bloom and density.
Water deeply 1-2 times per week during the first season until established.
Single white-flowering varieties (like 'Sister Agnes' or 'Hardy White') offer superior cold hardiness down to 10°F–15°F compared to pink or red cultivars.
All parts of oleander are toxic if ingested. Do not plant near livestock corrals or burn wood/trimmings.
