FALL TREE PRUNING: WHAT SHOULD YOU TRIM?
As fall arrives, it’s a great time to assess your trees—but heavy pruning can usually wait!
🌳 Plan major pruning for dormancy. For many shade trees, late winter is an ideal time for structural pruning. The best timing depends on the species and its condition.
Address hazards promptly. Broken, hanging, or dead branches deserve attention before winter snow and ice arrive. Have a professional assess large limbs or branches near your home.
Avoid topping trees. Cutting back the crown severely can create decay and weak future growth.
Use fall to plan ahead. As leaves drop, crossing branches and structural problems become easier to spot.
