engraving day

09/29/2026

I have about 20 customers now who have back ordered the Rhody paint sets. I am still waiting on the all-surface enamel base - I have ordered enough for 60 sets. All SW trucks appear to be running about 2 weeks behind schedule. Rumor has it, it's due to diesel prices, but you know how some people will blame God Emperor Trump (PBUH) for anything. I am expecting them any day now.

Ok, this is just insane. And while 40% humidity isn't all that for the Southeast, it is for the desert. It just won't rain!

This was at the farm entrance gate, not on the freeway where it was only 119F

Got my towed backup generators, though, so the day wasn't wasted. Can run everything off grid until the diesel runs out. Now need to get the house, shop, and well wired for the transfer boxes.

Still not testfiring. Got really woozy on Sunday breaking down the shade structures that got destroyed in the last storm. I'm not as young as I used to be and the heat is affecting more. I was only out for 3 hours sawing them apart, and it was brutal.

On the good side, all 20 of the ri**es that are not being engraved are ready for testfire. As soon as we get a break from this heat wave.

Bad storm. REALLY bad storm. House and shop are fine, but lost some trees and outbuildings. Power is back on for us (thousands of others still without power - power lines down all over the place!). I just got my backup generators last week, and ended up not needing them. Which is good because I don't have a direct power plug-in, I'd be running of a spider-box (which I don't have yet) and extension cords.

Will be doing cleanup for a couple days, so on-line orders may be delayed in shipping. Sorry, gotta get cleanup done.

Had an overcast day yesterday, so could testfire. It was still 106F and I was dripping from the humidity, but I made it happen. 16 ri**es.

I'm really not happy with these Lebanese and Libyan barrels. I'm seeing at least 10%, maybe 20% that are completely shot out. 5" groups at 30 yards with some possible key-holes. Doesn't seem to be any pattern to them. External rust is no indication. It's very frustrating. But a .299" gauge falls through, which it really shouldn't, and I had one where a .300" gauge passed with slight pressure.

And two of the DSA FSL 26- receivers that won't go into battery. They headspace fine, but dummy round locks the bolt up tight, and not all the way closed. Cams it to the right. Have to mortar to open, unfired. Going to have to figure out what those clowns at DSA screwed up this time, and whether I can work around it or if I have to send them back.

I think maybe the left rail protrudes too far toward centerline. It will close with extractor removed, so I may have to "cheat" and remove the extractor wing like on a version 3 Australian.

Not test firing today. tomorrow doesn't look so good either. but I can blast and park in the AC.
