WAIT… are those posts getting buried in concrete?! 👀

Not on this build!

Unlike traditional pole-barn construction, we’re taking a conventional approach to this massive covered porch.

The posts you see are temporary supports holding the structure in place until we’re ready to pour concrete and install the permanent posts using properly anchored post bases.

Different construction methods have their place, but understanding how everything comes together is what matters.

Now we’re curious… would you build it differently? 👇

Wait… shouldn’t this be sheetrock? 👀

Not quite. This custom home stretches nearly 90 feet long, and there’s a reason we’re installing OSB on this interior wall.

It’s all about structural stability.

Strategically placed wall sheathing helps provide additional bracing, reducing unwanted movement and strengthening the overall structure.

It’s one of those details most homeowners will never see once the house is finished.

But that’s the difference between building a house and building one with the details in mind.

Would you have questioned this if you saw it in your new home? 👇

Wait… why is this concrete 12 inches thick?! 🤔

Isn’t 4 inches pretty standard?

Absolutely! But on this custom home, we decided to take things a step further.

The porch slab is 4 inches thick, but we incorporated a 12-inch thickened edge for additional structural support and a cleaner, more substantial finished appearance.

Sometimes it’s the little details that make the biggest difference!

What do you think? Overkill or worth it? 👇

There’s a difference between building a house and creating a place that truly feels like home.

Sometimes it’s the big things. The floor plan, the kitchen, the outdoor living spaces.

Other times, it’s the details you experience every single day.

Today, we’re getting the entrance ready for a custom gate that will eventually welcome this family home for years to come.

It’s one of those finishing touches that completely transforms the feel of a property.

And judging by how this entrance is already coming together, the finished product is going to be something special!

There’s that red line again… 😂

This time it has nothing to do with framing.

Before we pour the concrete around this home, we’re using a chalk line to establish exactly where we want the finished concrete elevation to land against the metal siding.

It’s a simple step, but getting your elevations right before the concrete trucks show up can save you from much bigger problems later.

A lot of good construction comes down to doing the little things before they become expensive things.

And yes… the red line will eventually disappear. 😂

This little piece of hardware costs about $1.

But on a 1,000+ sq. ft. covered porch in Oklahoma, it has a pretty important job.

This homeowner had a specific vision for how they wanted their house positioned on the property, including a massive covered porch. That also means building with Oklahoma wind and uplift in mind.

Joist hangers, installed with the correct fasteners, are one piece of the load path that helps transfer those forces through the structure instead of relying on lumber and nails alone.

You shouldn’t have to scale back the vision for your home just because something is more challenging to build.

Dream big. Just choose a builder who knows how to build it correctly.

Everyone noticed this little board. 👀🔥

It doesn’t look like much, and once the walls are finished, you’ll never see it again.

But some of the most important details in a home are the ones that eventually get covered up.

Fire blocking is used in specific locations to help limit the movement of fire and hot gases through concealed spaces within the framing.

Cheap material. Simple detail. Important purpose.

This is why what happens BEFORE the drywall matters.

10/03/2026

No, they didn’t mess up the concrete. 😂

This is intentional.

It’s called a garage door lip, and it creates a small elevation change at the garage opening to help keep water from making its way inside.

One of those little details that doesn’t look like much when the house is being built, but has a pretty important job once it’s finished.

Not every delivery goes according to plan. 😂

These trusses were dropped more than 1,000 feet from the homesite, leaving us with a pretty simple problem: how do we get them the rest of the way without losing days, or possibly weeks?

Fortunately, construction is full of people who know how to solve problems.

A trailer, some equipment, people that know how to use both, and we were back in business.

It’s one of the most underrated parts of this industry. Build good relationships, help people when you can, and when something unexpected happens, there’s usually someone willing to help find a solution.

Problems happen. Keep the job moving.

It looks a little questionable until you see how it all comes together. 👀

That board anchored into the stone becomes the hidden mounting point for the custom wood mantel.

The mantel is built hollow, slides directly over it, and gives us a solid attachment without exposed hardware.

One of those little details you’ll probably never notice once the house is finished.

But now you know what’s behind it. 🏠
