Before and after on a big old mulberry that took a beating in the July 4th storms.
Nothing dramatic here — we pulled the broken and hanging limbs, cleaned out the deadwood, and thinned the interior so wind can pass through instead of catching. No topping, no butchering. The tree keeps its shape and its shade.
Mulberries are notorious for this. Fast growers, brittle wood, and they hold a lot of weight out on the ends of the limbs. If yours dropped wood this month, the damaged stubs are what fail next — get them cut back clean before the next round of storms rolls through.
