Vidalia PD Back the Blue KCBS BBQ Competition

Today was a great day at the VPD Back the Blue BBQ Contest in Vidalia, LA. This is a great contest, in a beautiful location, and they take care of the cooks. Thank you Ann Westmoreland Goeggle for putting on this great contest and the Friday dinner!

1st in chicken
8th in Villari ribs
8th in Villari pork
3rd in brisket

1st overall out of 29 teams, with a 700!

2026 American Royal World Series of Barbecue

Home and unpacked, and my 7th American Royal is complete! While I didn't hear Kermit's Ex name mentioned at either the Invitational or open awards, we did get plenty of fans walking by loving our logo! It's the small things you have to enjoy!

The new American Royal facility was nice and will only get better!

I want to congratulate my friends Glamping Grillers Competition BBQ Team for getting their first call and ribbon at the Royal and my friend Mickey Lindsey with Blind Hog for getting a call and ribbon on each day!

Congratulations to all that heard their name, it is a great feeling just to get that call at the Royal, Kermit will be back and we will hear our name next year!

Thanks to Villari Foods and The Good Charcoal Company for being great partners and providing the best pork and charcoal on the planet!

Thanks to Snake River Farms for the hot dog social on Thursday and the customer appreciation event on Friday, my brisket turned out great each day (to me at least)!

Good morning from the 2026 American Royal World Series of Barbecue Invitational, it's a beautiful 57 degrees out, the big meats are getting warmed up!

Thank you Snake River Farms for the customer appreciation event last night, good food, drinks and all the hospitality! I think I got a nice SRF sitting on my Lone Star Grillz smoker!

And warming up beside that brisket, are some nice Villari Foods pork butts! PlankRoadBBQTeam

2026 American Royal World Series of Barbecue!

Kermit got here early today, got in my spot (lot A, spot 394), all ready to smoke and enjoy the festivities and the BBQ family!

I'm confident my Villari Foods pork and ribs, representing PlankRoadBBQTeam will give me a chance at hearing our name this weekend! And The Good Charcoal will burn a clean and 🔥

Let's have some fun and make the inaugural Royal at the new facility one to remember!

Cherokee Strip Cook Off was a success with 1 big head scratcher! Beautiful weekend spent lake side in Ponca City, Oklahoma for there 40th year of this contest! Congrats to them for their success 🙌!

First, the results from the Friday night 1-meat rib cook, 😋 First place with Villari Foods ribs repping PlankRoadBBQTeam and The Good Charcoal Company burning a clean smoke!

Congrats to Travis Farthing for losing the tiebreaker for 2nd in 1-meat ribs! Sorry buddy!

Onto Saturday, the results:

6th in chicken
24th in ribs (WTF)
5th in pork
6th in brisket

9th overall out of 30 teams

Congratulations to my friend Sam Dodson with Bull in the Ring BBQ with the repeat GC (even with one less finger! 😄)

Congrats to Michael Brewster with BrewsCue Competition BBQ and Catering with the RGC

And was supposed to be cooking this next weekend, but it got canceled, so next up is the American Royal!

Kermit is smokin away at the Cherokee Strip Cook Off in Ponca City, Oklahoma at the beautiful location and view on the lake.

Friday started with a 1 meat rib cook, using Villari Foods ribs representing PlankRoadBBQTeam cooking with The Good Charcoal Company (results will be tomorrow)

Another hot weekend, when will fall arrive?

Kermit made it home from 12 days in Kansas and 3 KCBS BBQ competitions. The heat 🥵 🔥 ☀️ was brutal with 100 degrees every frickin day! Even with the heat, I had a lot of fun, won a lot of trophies and some head scratching, spent a ton of time in the new trailer, I could do that again!

Last comp was a little down from the first 2, but you can't win them all, unless your Janky Leg BBQ, who finished 3rd, 1st and 1st, hell of a cook, congrats Jordan Kirkpatrick

Day 2 of Smokin on the River I got a 4th place in Villari ribs for 12th overall!

Day 1 was 3rd in brisket, 4th in Villari ribs, 9th in Villari pork for 4th overall 😋

Previous weekend at the East Central Kansas State BBQ Contest was 8th in Villari pork, 1st in brisket for 6th overall 😋

Thanks to Villari Foods PlankRoadBBQTeam for amazing pork and The Good Charcoal Company for the best charcoal to light the fire 🔥

Day 10 of 12, finished up Smokin on the River BBQ Contest, day 1, Kermit with the return of the legend of Heath, had a very successful competition, even with the relentless heat 🥵
