🔥 Mighty Marks PSA: Why Rolling Sealer Is the “Take the Money and Run” Method — And Why We Don’t Do It
We’ve been seeing more and more fly‑by‑night companies posting videos where they’re just rolling two‑part Wet Look sealer around like paint. No spray. No blower. No proper joint stabilization. No understanding of how the product actually works.
That’s not sealing.
That’s the “take the money and run” method.
Here’s how Mighty Marks does it the right way, and why rolling-only is the fastest way to ruin your pavers.
🧼 Step 1: Professional Cleaning — High GPM + Low Pressure
We start with a high gallons-per-minute machine paired with low pressure.
This gives you:
• Deep cleaning
• Safe pore opening
• Zero paver damage
• Zero surface scarring
High pressure alone can destroy pavers.
High GPM does the cleaning — low pressure protects the stone.
🧱 Step 2: Sanding the Joints With Proper Joint-Stabilizing Sand
We use a premium joint-stabilizing sand that doesn’t leave a gray haze and is designed to bond with two‑part sealer.
This sand:
• Fills the joints evenly
• Supports the paver structure
• Prevents shifting and sinking
• Works perfectly with our sealer system
Most rookies already fail here — wrong sand, wrong process, wrong results.
💦 Step 3: Spraying the First Coat — NOT Rolling
Two‑part Wet Look sealer is engineered to be sprayed, not rolled.
Spraying:
• Atomizes the sealer
• Lays it evenly
• Allows proper pe*******on
• Gets the product into and through the joints
• Starts the chemical bond with the stabilizing sand
‼️Rolling-only cannot do ANY of this.
💨 Step 4: Blowing the Sealer In and Through the Joints
After spraying, we use high-powered blowers to push the sealer in and through the joints.
This step:
• Locks the sand
• Stabilizes the system
• Protects the base
• Prevents erosion
• Keeps the pavers tight and level
If your joints aren’t sealed properly, monsoon rain and even weekend cleaning will wash out the base sand — and your pavers will start shifting, sinking, rising, and separating.
🎨 Step 5: Back-Rolling the Surface
Once the pavers have absorbed the first coat and the joints are locked, we back-roll the remaining sealer sitting on top of the denser pavers.
Back-rolling:
• Levels the finish
• Eliminates blotches
• Smooths out dense areas
• Creates a uniform Wet Look
• Prevents pooling and over-application
This is the correct use of a roller — NOT as the primary application method.
🚫 Why Rolling-Only Is a Failure Waiting to Happen
Here’s what happens when rookies roll sealer as their only method:
1. The sand comes up on the roller
Sticky sealer grabs the sand and pulls it out of the joints.
Result: zero joint stabilization.
2. The sealer sits on top instead of penetrating
Result: weak enhancement, uneven color, premature wear.
3. The roller lays the sealer on too thick
Result: whitening, peeling, flaking, and a finish that looks like a
silicone job gone bad.
4. No blower = no joint lock
Result: shifting, sinking, rising, spreading pavers.
Rolling-only is not professional sealing.
It’s a shortcut that costs homeowners thousands later.
