Months behind to posting my usual Color of the Year round up, but at least I have good intel!
This year, I had the privilege of chatting with one of the executives at Sherwin Williams as well as virtually attending Pantone’s Color of the Year discussion on how these hues are chosen. The process is simply intriguing, and I think my favorite aspect is the reminder of the power color has not just on your home space, but on culture. So many factors are considered- and on a global scale!
The Color Guild is a group of designers, architects, color experts, contractors, and consumers all around the world and every year, they study the trends in culture, the economy, music, culinary, technology, fashion, and so much more to determine what colors to summarize where we’ve been and project where we are going for the next annual cycle. It’s truly a science and sometimes I feel like we get sucked into the mindset that the USA is the only culture that effects these things- so it’s pretty cool!
One of the first things I noticed about the 2023 color palette was the obvious red tones. It’s already been such a vibrant year, hasn’t it? Full of passion, drive, and intensity! So RED ♥️ And now I’m looking at this colorscape with fresh eyes- knowing it’s an aesthetic temperature of our world as a whole. What a unifying thing for something so simple as colors of the year!
What do you think? Did this change your perspective on this fun little annual roundup?
