The real beginning of J Thomas Home is long before the opening of this shop. Josh and I have been crafting and creating within various homes for over 20 years. There’s the story that is told often at family gatherings of two brothers hammering in nails for the very first time, helping to build their grandparents’ back deck. There’s the high school construction course of mostly guys, where a girl got excited about hanging and mudding drywall, using power tools, and building a house for a family in her small town to call, “home.” There was the frequent rearranging of bedroom and living room furniture, the latter much to our parents’ dismay. Now in a house of our own, we’ve poured hours into demolition and design, updating each room, testing out new techniques and trying different styles. J Thomas Home became a reality when we could make ourselves the furnishing options we were finding available at the big-box stores, not only with better-quality materials, but perfectly customized to our size, color, finish, and look. I think Josh was born an entrepreneur. His creativity stems from his strong interests in research and experimentation, and a positive attitude to grow from “mistakes” made. His amazing ability to retain all the information he constantly learns equips him for challenges that arise and idea generation for our business. Josh almost obsessively pushes himself to design and develop premium products that will generate nothing but 100% satisfaction for our customers -- which, in turn, is what’s so rewarding to him about this job! While Josh’s imagination appears when working with the metals and wood in the J Thomas Home shop, mine stirs within organization and words. I enjoy both numbers and writing, two things that polarize most folks, and am often our company’s voice of reason, after internally deliberating over our options. Josh and my differing problem-solving approaches create some interesting decision-making discussions… but in the end, our two styles blend into a high-quality, custom piece fit for you, your friends, and family.
