The Bates Mill Store originally opened in Maine in the 1950s as a factory outlet offering second quality bedspreads to the employees of one of America's most famous textile manufacturers, the Bates Manufacturing Company (1850-2001). Like many of its peers in the world of American manufacturing, the Bates Manufacturing Company was running for more than 150 years when it was sadly forced to close its doors in 2001. Shortly after, former Bates President Fred Lebel founded a legacy company, Maine Heritage Weavers, with daughter Linda Cloutier and a team of former Bates employees. With a strong belief in New England's textile heritage and Maine's craftsmen and women, Maine Heritage Weavers proudly carries on the distinctive weaving tradition by faithfully maintaining the high quality and standards that made Bates famous. Today, the Bates Mill Store is a proud, family-owned retailer of these high quality American made textiles and is conveniently located alongside the Maine Heritage Weavers factory in Maine where all our products are made. The products are available online as well as at our retail location next to the Maine Heritage Weavers factory in Monmouth, Maine.
