Eco-friendly design shouldn't be an expensive add-on or an afterthought—it belongs in the foundation from day one.

We are proud to share that the Community College of Aurora's Center for Applied Science and Technology (CCA CAST) has officially earned LEED v4 Silver Certification.

By integrating sustainability and high-performance engineering from the very beginning, the CCA CAST facility achieved:

🌿 29% energy use reduction compared to baseline code
🌿 45% indoor water use reduction
🌿 50% of construction waste diverted from landfills
🌿 EV-ready infrastructure built to support long-term regional mobility

Beyond the numbers, the facility leverages biophilic design—including natural materials, dynamic daylighting, and direct views of the Colorado landscape across 75% of spaces—to lower student stress and foster focused, hands-on learning.

A world-class facility provides the stage, but what brings it to life is the learning that happens inside its walls.

For decades, vocational tracking was hidden away in basements and back corridors. Modern Career and Technical Education (CTE) is flipping that narrative completely.

At the Fremont High School CTE Center, "Pride of Place" and transparent architecture—like glass-walled robotics suites and open construction tech bays—put hands-on learning on full display. It’s no longer about old-school “shop class”; it’s about creating professional launchpads that blur the lines between high school, higher education, and industry.

Explore how intentional spatial design and community integration drive a measurable "Triple Bottom Line" for students, school districts, and regional economies:

Campus design is at its best when it does more than house students—it helps them connect, grow, and build community.

We’re thrilled to share that Southeast Community College is preparing to break ground next month on its upcoming 128,000 sf residence and dining hall in Lincoln, with official ceremonies set for November 10.

Designed by BVH, the facility will introduce 248 living units arranged into residential "neighborhoods," a 300-seat campus-wide dining anchor, and intentional circulation paths with "open privacy" study spaces. Following the success of Woodhaven Hall, this new hall marks another major milestone in SCC’s evolution into a vibrant, residential learning environment.

We’re proud to partner with Southeast Community College, Olsson, Boyd Jones Construction, and Voss & Associates Inc. to bring this space to life for the 2028–29 academic year.

SCC’s Board of Governors approved a guaranteed maximum price of $48.4 million for the 128,000-square-foot facility, which is expected to open in 2028.

Lincoln's future $58.5 million central library will feature a 5,000-square-foot UNL branch focused on local history, archives and community access.

Great architecture starts with listening.

When designing schools that truly foster wellbeing, community voice isn’t just an addition—it’s the foundation. Join our K12 team alongside Project Advocates at EDspaces on October 28 for our session, "Collective Foundations: How Community Voice Shapes the Modern School."

Together with the Architect and Owner's Representative, we’ll reflect on how data-driven engagement and input from teachers, students, and neighbors guided inclusive design processes across Omaha Westside Community Schools projects.

What to expect:
🔹 Interactive slide surveys & audience engagement
🔹 Small-group discussions on how other school districts activate the community
🔹 Actionable frameworks to apply research & community input to your next project

Career and Technical Education (CTE) spaces are changing the way students prepare for the workforce—combining hands-on technical training with modern, high-tech learning environments.

Recently, leaders from BVH, Fremont Public Schools - Nebraska, and Metropolitan Community College (Nebraska) gathered at the Fremont High School CTE Center to discuss how thoughtful architecture and regional partnerships empower the next generation of skilled professionals.

From visible learning spaces with open glass walls to flexible labs that adapt as new technologies emerge, see how community-driven design makes a lasting impact!

“The most meaningful architecture doesn't compete with what came before. It finds a way to make both the past and the future more relevant.” — Mark Bacon, BVH Design Principal

We are honored to share that the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA) has received a 2026 AIA Central States Region Design Honor Award in Preservation/Adaptive Reuse.

In evaluating MONA, the jury chaired by Colleen Gove Healey, AIA, NCARB, noted:

“We love the project’s approach to historic preservation as a deferential one, demonstrating a genuine respect for the existing architecture while allowing the new intervention to have its own identity.”

In Kearney, Nebraska, our ambition went beyond expanding a museum—it was about reconsidering what a civic institution gives back to its community. By integrating the historic 1911 post office with a contemporary mass timber addition and a 43,000 sq. ft. public sculpture garden accessible 24/7, MONA extends its engagement well beyond its walls.

Design excellence is measured not only by what we create, but by what we make possible for others.

Congratulations to the entire BVH Architecture project team, our partners, and MONA! Sincere thanks to the AIA Kansas Chapter, the Central States Region, and the jury for this recognition.
