What’s Lurking Beneath Those Fall Leaves? 💀🍂

A yard full of colorful autumn leaves can be beautiful… until they start piling up in all the wrong places!

While a few leaves can benefit your garden beds, thick, matted layers on your lawn can block sunlight and trap excess moisture.

Before those leaves become a real yard nightmare, remember a few simple fall cleanup tips:

🍂 Mulch leaves into your lawn when possible.

🌿 Keep heavy leaf piles from smothering your grass.

🍁 Clear leaves away from walkways and drains.

🍃 Leave some loose leaves in garden beds where they can provide shelter for beneficial insects.

Fall yard care doesn’t have to be scary! A little attention now can help your landscape get off to a healthier start when spring rolls around.

Keep the spooky surprises in your Halloween decorations, not hiding beneath your leaves! 👻

It’s Halloween Week! Don’t Let Your Landscape Turn Into a Frightful Mess! 👻🍂

Halloween might be all about spooky sights, but a neglected landscape doesn’t have to be one of them!

As the leaves fall and temperatures drop, your garden beds can start looking a little more like a haunted hideaway than the beautiful landscape you enjoyed all summer.

Did you know that a good layer of mulch does more than make your yard look great?

🍁 Helps insulate plant roots as temperatures change.

🌱 Helps retain soil moisture.

🍂 Helps suppress unwanted weeds.

🏡 Gives landscape beds a neat, finished appearance.

A little landscaping know-how can go a long way toward keeping your outdoor spaces looking their best through the changing seasons.

Because the only thing that should look spooky in your yard is your Halloween décor! 👻

MICHIGAN FALL HAS TWO TYPES OF HOMEOWNERS! 🍁

🍂 TYPE ONE: Has the yard cleaned up, outdoor furniture stored, flower beds ready, and everything crossed off the fall checklist.

🍂 TYPE TWO: Is still pretending there’s plenty of time because we had one random 70-degree afternoon.

And let’s not forget the person who rakes the entire yard…only to look up and see another thousand leaves still hanging on the trees!

Michigan sure knows how to keep us guessing this time of year!

So we’re curious…are you TEAM ALL READY FOR WINTER or TEAM I’LL GET TO IT NEXT WEEKEND?

No judgment here! We’ve all trusted a Michigan fall forecast a little too much! 🍁

SOME LANDSCAPING MATERIALS DON’T MIND A MICHIGAN WINTER! 🪨

Flowers fade, leaves fall, and grass stops growing…but a well-designed landscape can still look great long after the growing season ends!

Decorative stone and rock can add lasting texture and definition to your outdoor spaces.

They’re great for:

🪨 Creating clean borders around landscape beds.

🍂 Adding visual interest where plants are going dormant.

🏡 Giving walkways and outdoor areas a finished look.

And unlike seasonal flowers, decorative stone doesn’t need to be replanted every spring!

Now’s a great time to check on the landscape materials you may need to finish those final outdoor projects.

Don’t wait until Michigan winter makes the decision for you! ❄️

YOUR YARD CALLED…IT HAS A FEW LAST-MINUTE REQUESTS! 🍂

Before Michigan decides it’s officially winter, now’s a good time to take one last look around your property!

That bare landscape bed you’ve been meaning to freshen up?

That spot where the mulch has gotten a little thin?

Those outdoor projects that have been sitting on your to-do list since August? 👀

Well, the clock is ticking!

A little work now can mean one less project waiting for you when spring rolls around!

🍁 Don’t let your unfinished projects become next spring’s surprises!

MICHIGAN’S OUTDOOR PROJECT SEASON DOESN’T LAST FOREVER.

There’s always that project you meant to tackle in May…and then June…and somehow it’s October.

If there’s still something on your outdoor list, now is a good time to decide whether it’s getting done this fall or officially becoming a “next spring” problem.

Michigan winter has a way of making that decision for us eventually. ❄️

YOUR YARD DOESN’T NEED TO BE COMPLETELY LEAF-FREE. 🍂

That perfectly spotless lawn might look nice, but fallen leaves can also have a second life around the yard.

Shredded leaves can be added to compost or used in appropriate garden areas, where they eventually break down and add organic matter back to the soil.

Turns out Mother Nature is pretty good at recycling.

NOT EVERY OUTDOOR PROJECT STARTS WITH A TRIP TO THE HARDWARE STORE. 🛻

Sometimes it starts with a truckload.

A new garden bed may need soil. A muddy area might benefit from stone. Landscaping projects can call for mulch, while other jobs need an entirely different material.

Not sure what makes sense for the project you have in mind? Midland Mulch can help point you in the right direction before you order.

Because ordering a whole pile of the wrong thing makes for a very long weekend.

FUN DAY FRIDAY:

YOU CAN RAKE TODAY… BUT THE TREES HAVE PLANS FOR TOMORROW. 🍂🌿🍁🍃

There’s something about a Michigan fall yard that makes you feel incredibly accomplished for approximately 10 minutes.

You rake. You clean everything up. You stand back and admire your work.

Then the wind blows.

And suddenly it looks like you never touched it.

If you’re in the middle of the annual battle between you and the leaves, just remember — the trees eventually run out. 🍁
