A small reel from my last post where each process is detailed. Raw materials are cut, machined, and finished into their final form before a final finish car is applied. Steel was patinated with an oxidation solution (I did get a little experimental here, definitely room for improvement on the next build).

The crack on the walnut slab was held together with a custom cut bow tie made by me (no template). I’ve always enjoyed hand cut bow ties instead of template made ones. Working with live edge slabs this past year has inspired other ideas that I am excited to bring to fruition soon.

I am not a “maker” I am not here to make things for your company with wannabe designers. I am an artist, a creator of unique and beautiful pieces, a real designer who puts thought into their work and sacrifices nothing to appease anyone. I am not to be shopped around so you can add a mark up on my work. I am an acquired taste, a forever signature or craftsmanship and quality. Take your poorly drawn work elsewhere, your request to mimic overseas slop to the trash, your ignorant questions back to the school you overpaid at. To all the men and women who pick up the tools, who carry the materials, who intentionally lay ink to paper- this note is for you.

…and to the men and women who can distinguish a good perfume from a cheap one, that know the softness of full grain leather, the sweet smell walnut, a quality rye wh***ey, and understand that design is merely a composition of quality materials that extends from a well curated lifestyle, you are a designer I welcome with open arms.

I make statement pieces. Whether it’s for your home or a public setting, my signature is in the composition of the materials and their shape given by my hands. English walnut grafted into claro walnut, work that another person + nature took care of decades before I walked this earth and discovered what I was meant to do.

This is the story of something small yet so significant. The other half of this slab was made into a charcuterie board and raffle off at a baby shower, where a classy 85 year old lady named Peggy held it in her hands and exclaimed “I’ve never won anything before!”

This slab is part of several timelines. One, a newlywed couple begins their life together and is commemorated in this piece. Another will cherish a beautiful piece that was made because her granddaughter is carrying the next generation forward. That new generation is the extension of myself.

Completed this amazing custom cutting board a few weeks back. Made from claro walnut with grafted English walnut, which makes up the unique grain and color in this piece. Finished off with wax oil and a custom hand carved brass plate to commemorate the newlyweds. Even did brass feet to really accentuate the contrast in materials. Enjoy the process.

I am not sure what the rest of the year has in store for me (well I do). I am trying to make as much as I can right now. Eventually I will have an extra pair of hands to help, they won’t work very well but they’re an extra pair of hands…
