A crisp edge is what makes a bed look finished, and it is the difference you notice from the driveway. 🍁 Cut edge, defined line, mulch pulled back off the crowns, and enough late color to carry the front of the house into November.

A front yard is a sequence. Drive, walk, water, patio. Get the order right and the whole property reads as one piece instead of four separate projects. The walk curves back to the house rather than cutting straight across it, a boulder stream runs through the beds between the drive and the barn, the lighting is set into the stone before anyone needs it, and a patio waits under the shade tree. Windsor, finished this summer. 🍂

Shade in July, cover in October, and the louvers are the reason it works both ways. Open them and it is a patio. Close them and you are eating outside in a cold drizzle with the lights on. The kitchen, the power and the drainage all went in before the posts did.

Moving water is better in October than it is in July. The air is quiet, the sound carries further, and the stone darkens up in the wet. A boulder feature is mostly a grading and plumbing problem solved before the first rock goes in, which is why this one still looks like it grew there.

First light, lot cleared to the pavement, doors open on time. ❄️ That is what an October snow contract buys you in February. Plowing, sidewalks, salt and ice management, run by the same crews that keep your grounds through the summer. Commercial lot or residential drive, it is one contract and one number to call.

From the water, this is the first thing you see. Tiers of outcropping stone step up the bluff to the house, and the low-voltage lights set into the wall pick out each ledge once the sun goes down. Built to handle the slope, and lit so it still looks good after dark from the dock.

A seat wall means nobody is dragging chairs across the patio to sit by the fire. 🔥 It is there in October, it is there in February, and it doubles as the edge that keeps the mulch out of the stone. The pumpkins are seasonal. The seating is not.

Twenty seconds of a build that took months. Excavation, base, grade, then stone, then everything people actually notice. The base is the part nobody posts and the reason the finished space still sits level years later. Design takes time and permits take time, so the spring build slots go to whoever starts now. October is when next April gets decided.

Every sloped yard has a line where the grade stops cooperating. Outcropping stone sets that line and holds it, and it reads as part of the hillside instead of something bolted onto it. Big rock, set deep, backfilled and drained so water moves through instead of behind.
