DID YOU KNOW?
Concrete shrinks as it cures, so cracking is not a question of if, only where. Cutting joints into the slab gives those cracks a planned place to happen, in a straight line instead of a random one across the surface.
The cut goes about one quarter of the way through the slab, soon after the pour. Sealing those joints with caulk then keeps water, dirt, and small rocks out, which protects the base underneath and keeps the edges from chipping and breaking down over time.
Our crew cuts and seals every joint, because the small details are what make concrete last.
