Newer doesn’t mean better! Some of these heirloom varieties are still around for a reason! They are the late season work horses of the garden.

These are first year beauties for me and I am loving them!

Helenium autumnale is so underrated and over-looked! It’s a late fall bloomer and a wonderful source of nectar for late season bumblebees! 🐝 Its Golden-yellow, daisy-like blooms have distinctive, button centers surrounded by slightly swept-back petals. Its airy flowers bring a touch of wildflower charm to the garden and are irresistible to visiting pollinators! It’s become one of my fall favorites!

This is the first year I’ve had Hardy Chrysanthemums in my garden and I LOVE them so much! I will definitely be adding more! They add so much late season color and interest!

The Issai Beautyberry has become a fall favorite of mine as well! Its unique purpley-pink berries and changing foliage color are a stand out in the fall garden!

New England Asters have been a huge hit with the bees and I have really been enjoying the mix of purpley-pinks against the contrasting gold centers!

Make sure to add these to your ‘must have’ list for next year to extend the flower power in your garden!

Do you plant a wide range of seasonal plants? It’s more important than you think - not only to enjoy your gardens for as long as possible (because we all know what’s coming!) but also to help support those late season pollinators!

Here are some photos of my late season gardens and plants I carry in the nursery.

Sedum- This common plant really shines in the fall providing a pop of deep jewel colors and the pollinators LOVE it!

Roses- If deadheaded, roses pump out flowers until the first freeze.

Purple Fairytale Salvia- If you’ve followed me awhile, you’ll know I mention this one often. It’s one of my favorites! If deadheaded, it pumps out blooms from spring until the first frost. The pollinators are on from dawn til dusk.

Phlox- The tall garden Phlox are still blooming their gorgeous heads off! Again, deadhead them throughout the season and they will keep on blooming.

Helenium- This plant is so underrated and doesn’t get the attention it deserves! It shines now, later in the fall! Adorable coned tops with buttery yellow turned down petals. The pollinators love it as well.

Oakleaf Hydrangeas- Did you know besides their beautiful flower heads, their foliage turns gorgeous shades of burgundy as the nights get colder ? These are already starting to turn!

Spirea- After the first spring bloom, cut back the leggy spent blooms. It’s a bit of a pain in the butt, however, your effort will be rewarded with beautiful fall color and a second flush of blooms!

Coneflowers- You can’t go wrong with Coneflowers! Their long lasting color and texture adds so much beauty to a late season garden!

Hydrangeas- There are so many varieties- I only carry paniculatas, quercifolias and arborescences. I love them all but the smooth leaf arborescences are my favorite! Even though they fade from cream to sage green they add so much texture to a fading garden!

Grasses- This Purple Love grass is on fire right now! It adds a pop of color and its blooms add texture as well.

Asters and Chrysanthemums- I love a big porch mum as much as the next person but there are some beautiful hardy options for the late fall garden! My New England Aster is a fun mix of pink and purple blooms. I absolutely love it and it’s an important source for late season pollinators. The Aromatic Aster is a beautiful lilac bloom with a yellow button center and there are some gorgeous Hardy Chrysanthemum options as well! I am starting to collect some amazing rare heirloom hardy Chrysanthemums in hopes of having some for sale hopefully next season but for sure in 2028.

So many options for late season color, texture and nectar for the pollinators!

That’s a wrap on our first full season!!

I truly can’t believe what an amazing first season it has been! Thank you from the bottom of my heart to every person that stopped out and supported our little nursery. Thank you to those repeat customers who came multiple times and brought new friends each time! I can’t even fully express the depth of my gratitude!

Thank you to my husband Dan Heisler without him none of this would be possible! He has supported this crazy dream of mine and worked his tail off (after his already full time job!) along side me.
Thank you for believing in me and my dreams! I love you!❤️

I’m going to take a much needed break for a little while, relax a bit more and spend some quality time with my sweet granddaughter and get back at my sewing machine!

I’m SO excited to share all the gorgeous beauties I have planned for next season!

🌺 Did you buy Hollyhocks from me this year? Let them go to seed!

Many of the Hollyhocks I sold this season flowered their first year. If you’d like more plants next year, let some of those flower stalks go to seed!

Once the seed pods are brown and dry, you can simply let them drop naturally — or open the pods yourself and scatter the seeds around where you’d like more Hollyhocks to grow.

We mulch pretty heavy in our beds to help maintain moisture, cut down on weeds and for winter protection. If you also mulch, just pull the mulch back a bit so the soil is exposed and spread the hollyhock seeds down. Cover back up with the mulch. The seeds pop right through it.

They’ll spend the winter outside naturally and germinate when conditions are right, or like mine germinate now and overwinter just fine as a small seedling and be ready to flower next season!

A few flowers this year can turn into a whole patch of Hollyhocks in the years ahead!

✨ If yours did not flower this year- no worries! It will flower next season and you can follow this same method next fall!

I’m not sure I can quite put into words what last night meant to me. ❤️

The very first Golden Hour Market exceeded my wildest expectations!

The weather was perfect, the turnout was amazing, and we had the opportunity to meet and visit with so many wonderful people. And our vendors… what an incredibly talented group of people and truly some of the sweetest souls. I couldn’t have asked for a better group to be part of our first market.

There was just something really special about seeing our little place filled with people—shopping, visiting, wandering the gardens and enjoying the evening. There was a moment I looked around and realized, it was everything I hoped it would be.

To every person who came out, supported our vendors, bought a plant, shared the event, brought a friend, or simply spent part of your evening with us—thank you. You made this night what it was.

And yes… after last night, I think it’s safe to say the Golden Hour Market will most definitely be back! 😁✨

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for making our very first one so incredibly special. ❤️

For those who couldn’t make it last night-

I found the COOLEST thing today growing on our property! A little sprout of Downy Rattlesnake Plantain!!

It’s actually a terrestrial orchid! Its teeny-tiny, seeds are almost dust-like and have virtually no stored food reserves, so they need compatible mycorrhizal fungi in the soil to provide what they need to germinate and begin growing. The orchid and fungus then form this fascinating relationship.

The fact that this tiny seed landed in just the right spot, found the right fungus, germinated and is now growing here absolutely fascinates me! Nature is SO cool!

The first photo is our little sprout and the second is a photo of a mature flowering plant.

Have you ever seen one?
