First swarm of the season !

Caught a video of the hive next to the house doing orientation flights.
The new bees of the hive ( usually around 5-10 days old ) perform orientation flights to familiarize themselves with the location of the hive and the entrance to the hive , as well as the surroundings of the hive in preparation for their next tasks as foragers . A tell tale sign of orientation flight is the short figure 8 flight pattern the bees will perform .

Who is out there enjoying this weather we are having today ?! 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️. It was finally warm enough to put on my favorite jacket and crack open a few of the boxes here at home . We are going to start our prep for our busy season here in the next few weeks ! Can't wait to see what year 3 has in store . Remember to get ahold of me if you have any swarms you need removed starting in May throughout the summer !!!

We've been asked many times if honey ever expires .. the answer is no ! Many people think that when honey crystalizes that means it is no longer good , but that is simply untrue, it is actually a sign of pure, high quality honey! All natural honey will crystalize as the glucose separates from the other natural sugars over time . temperature changes also contribute to this as well .you should never store your honey close to your stove/oven or put it in your refrigerator.

If you find your honey crystalized, have no fear it's super easy to reliquify your honey .

I went to grab a jar we had of last years honey to use it for a pie I will be making today , and noticed that the bottom had crystalized . So all I had to do was stick in in some warm water ( not boiling ) for about 10-15 minutes and it is good as new !
