I love October!
Okay, it is my birth month, but oh so much more:
Color! Not just the leaves that change color, but the Halloween traditional colors of orange and purple (inspiration for our logo colors?)
Fake scary stuff! We face our fears and overcome them for a treat (I admit that the giant sculptures that are popular now do not look fake enough for me. Yes, I’m a wimp, but more about that later.
Beautiful sunsets! Okay, that’s true of September, too, but now they start early enough to enjoy them while we’re still in the office, on our hikes (case in point a lovely pre-sunset on our walk last Friday October 16 at 5:15), and at our homes.
Local Produce is still available, even from my balcony planter box, until the first hard frost. It seems like the cherry tomatoes are even sweeter. Is that possible?
I love October because for most of us business is scary, design is scary, and people are scary…. mostly because business, design, and people are pretty unpredictable. We also know that so many things can go wrong. But in October we realize that positive outcomes (candy) come with facing the scary things (skeletons, ghosts, jack-o-lanterns) out there. So, chin up, my dear readers!
One of the reasons that I love what I do is that I love anticipating problems before they happen, thus preventing them. I love helping people making the best decisions by helping them see a more predictable view of their project, by helping them prioritize their choices (most people can’t have it all), and by enticing them with our virtual “candy” (3D views of their finished project, and real samples of materials).
So, carve those pumpkins and stack those gourds. Light the lanterns and hang the ghosts. We know that when November comes, we’ll remember the sweet stuff.
Have a challenge that feels insurmountable? Let’s not only survive but thrive in these scary times.
And think of me on October 29th!
