Sometimes our tech shows up to install a window well cover and ends up doing a little more than expected!

Our tech arrived at this Timnath home to install 2 XL Polyguard Covers. The home was a brand-new build and, importantly, the homeowner hadn’t even moved in yet.

But there was an unexpected problem waiting…😳

While our tech was there, an active water leak behind the wall overhead was discovered. The homeowner was notified, but unfortunately, some of the water had already made its way into the basement.

This replacement was about more than just making the wells look better. When we took a look at the old covers, we found two important problems that can affect how a window well cover functions as part of the overall system:

💧No rise for water drainage - A properly designed cover needs to allow water to move away from the window well rather than creating a situation where water pools on top.

🌬️No airflow into the window well - Window wells need intentional airflow. Completely sealing them off can interfere with how moisture, condensation and weather interact with the well.

At Polyguard Covers, we don't believe a window well cover should simply be a piece of material sitting over a hole. The design matters! A properly functioning cover works with the window well and the surrounding weather conditions to help keep the well in better condition. 🏡🌧️

🎨😬Oops… the painters forgot something!😬🎨

This Loveland homeowner recently had their house painted, and unfortunately, the window well cover wasn't protected prior to their start! 🫣

When the painters tried using paint thinner to remove it, things went from bad to worse - the polycarbonate was damaged and the cover needed to be replaced.

Luckily, Polyguard Covers swooped in to help! We custom-made a replacement cover to get this window well looking good again and restore the protection it needs.

💡 A helpful tip if you get paint on your polycarbonate cover:
🧼 Start with mild dish soap, lukewarm water and a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
🚫 Don't use paint thinner, acetone, lacquer thinner or other harsh solvents. These can damage polycarbonate.
🪒 Avoid razor blades, scrapers and abrasive pads that can scratch the surface.

When in doubt, check with the cover manufacturer before trying a chemical cleaner! 👍
