Marli here, I am the principal and founder of Rebel House.
I started the business solo at my dining table over 11 years ago and now we are a team of 10 working on national projects. I knew this is what I wanted to do back when I was a kid penning future homes on pads of my mom’s graph paper.
My parents are both artists - my father painted Dutch inspired photorealist still-lives and my mother transitioned from photo realist painting to creating her own graphic design business when I was born. I was lucky enough to be raised surrounded by art and artists, (they were literally always around our house for dinner), we took many trips to France (where my parents met in art school) to visit with their friends and teachers. You could say I had a front row seat to what it takes to be an artist and entrepreneur and learned early how to handle larger-than-life people—there was always someone with fame, famous adjacent, or a big personality hanging around.
The process of envisioning a space, both in how it lays out architecturally, as well as how it looks and (maybe more importantly) feels, is what I live for. I’m a people pleaser. I like making things for other people. Working with families and businesses to create something unique brings me an immense amount of joy.
I firmly believe it is my role to take what my clients are envisioning, that secret hope they have harbored for, and elevate it. That comes from marrying the art of what we do with strong process and organization. We bring exciting, beautiful ideas to the table and also execute them at a high level.
