When to cut peonies????

Not until AFTER your first killing frost, before this the leaves are gathering in light to help the roots grow strong.
Peonies are prone to disease, should you have any leaves that are spotted, brown etc don’t put them in your compost or leave in the garden!

Mid July garden, placing here on the grid for my January 2027 self whose moving around in the dark wondering if high summer was a dream.
Working to hold the present, the bee balm covered in tufts of purple petals and the robins with fat worms in their mouth standing proud on the picket fence.
Being still in a garden full of weeds is a real artful ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
But highly recommended.

Taking a moment to reflect on all the love I’ve received since The Beginner’s Cut Flower Garden came into the world, from Seattle to Philly to Connecticut and Newport, with lots of garden clubs and intimate celebrations in between. I’m so grateful for everyone who shared their floral memories along the way and those who have grown and given flowers to their community.

The world needs more flowers. And I know you can grow them ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I adore a secret garden aesthetic ✨✨
And I swear it’s not just because I’m behind on my weeding
I love a garden bed packed with blooms that bend and reach without reason
Herbs escaped from garden beds and weaving between stone
Antique flowers long forgotten
While teasel that grows overhead
The less tidy the better.

It’s peony time here in Maine!!!

Peonies look fantastic in a vase all by themselves but doing forgot to add some lovely greenery or pops of purple or orange to really make them sing.
I grow the following that seem to look perfect alongside a vase full of these glamorous flowers:
🌿 Solomon seal
🌿lady’s mantle
🌿 bearded iris
🌿 Irish poet tassel flower
🌿 ranunculus in orange and white
