This shop is owned and operated by Lauren McCleery, a textile artist and crafting enthusiast who developed her passion for all things fabric at the tender age of seven. Her first sewing lesson from her Mum sparked a lifelong love that has grown and guided the path of her hobbies and education ever since. After graduating from OCAD University’s Textile Design program in 2009, Lauren worked with several small Toronto entrepreneurs and designers, gaining firsthand experience with local businesses and learning a ton along the way. Armed with know-how and with a head full of ideas, she finally decided to strike out on her own in 2015 and create her own little corner of the entrepreneurial world, LoLuMi. The first major hurdle Lauren encountered was an environmental one. How could she bring her ideas to life without using mass-produced textiles and creating a gigantic carbon footprint? Her own overflowing fabric bins! Locally sourced reclaimed textiles would keep her environmental impact low while allowing her to create one-of-a-kind, truly unique pieces. Plus, it would push her to think outside the box, and she was never one to shy away from a creative challenge! So the hunt for amazing, unique, pre-existing textiles began, and has been a bit of an obsession for her ever since. Lauren runs her studio with the help of her fiancé, Emmanuel. Always there to offer support, help with fabric selection, a late night cup of tea or an appreciative “Oooooooooh!”, he keeps things running smoothly and Lauren from going bonkers. All LoLuMi items are handmade in Toronto, Canada. Thanks for stopping by! :)
