It’s the details that give a space its character. The vertical timber balau slats bring warmth and texture to this outdoor bar, creating a striking finish against the clean lines of the countertop. A lovely example of how timber can make an impact beyond the deck.

An outdoor shower is a practical addition near the pool or beach, but it can also become a beautiful design feature. Timber screening creates privacy while allowing light and air to move through the space, and a timber platform brings warmth underfoot. It is a simple detail that makes outdoor living feel considered from every angle.

Jeff’s pick for October is our Massaranduba, a beautiful Brazilian hardwood with rich, warm tones and natural character. It’s easy to see why this one caught his eye. Against the greenery of the garden, the colour and grain bring warmth to this outdoor space and make the deck feel like a natural extension of the home.

Balau can do more than create a beautiful deck. This sliding slatted screen brings warmth and texture to the outdoor area, while letting the space open up to the coastal view. It’s a practical way to add flexibility to an outdoor space, with the timber itself becoming part of the design.

The finished boards may get the attention, but the structure beneath them does the hard work. Built using CAA-treated S5 SA pine, a level, well planned subframe supports board alignment, load distribution and the long term performance of the deck. Good workmanship begins before the first visible board is installed.

Deck colour influences the entire mood of an outdoor space. Lighter tones can feel relaxed, open and coastal, while deeper tones create contrast and a more grounded architectural look. Consider the home’s exterior finishes, roof colour, paving, landscaping and furniture together rather than choosing the deck in isolation. The best result feels connected to the whole property.
