The Kaasir.

One of my firsts.

This piece still sits proudly in my very own living room, quietly watching the family grow up. It's a center piece in my home, one of the first things people see when they walk in the door and every newcomer has something kind to say.

The kids have climbed it, hid behind it, played games on it and decorated it for many a Christmas - this is what slow furniture is meant for. It's there to be lived with, to be a part of the family and to be loved.

I absolutely loved making this piece!

I had a stunning piece of White Oak that I wanted to use in one piece and bring an old memory back to life.

The telephone bench of long ago was a place to sit, unwind and catch up with family over a scheduled call. Life was simple.

It's Heritage Day time of year again and true to form, Rubio Monocoat South Africa has pulled a rabbit out a hat and gathered 12 incredible makers to each build a unique piece of furniture to auction off later this month - and 100% of the proceeds go straight to the charity CANSA
